We’re all experts now. Traditionally, being an expert means you have the institutional authority to weigh in on topics. Your POV is given greater weight than others—hey I’m a PhD I should know! And while disciplinarity in academia and other forms of credentialing tries to pass itself off as objective, acultural, capital K-nowledge (yeah positivism!), it is most surely not the only game in knowledge town. There are other forms of knowledge about those very same topics that are equally valid and valuable. Take the knowledge of your mom for example. Your mom might not have a bunch of initials after her name or have studied marketing well ever, but I can tell you this: she’s visited more than one website and has opinions. Thats why I love "the user is my mom" website. It accepts the premise that knowledge is situational, and it’s a great idea to include people with different backgrounds and relationships to the thing you seek to understand. It will give you a more nuanced and inclusive perspective—without taking out any of those wretched student loans.

On 6th April, the first of our tax return reminder emails goes out. It's the first of many throughout the year to ensure that we don't miss anyone, and you don't forget to give us your stuff! It's also got a Google Form attached that we ask everyone to complete. This form ensures we don't miss anything from your tax return. Some of the clients that we know really well, or have personal relationships, will assume that we know things like child benefit or student loans. It's understandable, because we've got fabulous relationships with you all 🥰 However, we can't know these things without you telling us. Some prime examples are that we might know you have children, but that doesn't mean we know you receive child benefit. We might know you went to uni, but that doesn't mean we know you have a student loan. Honestly, as we have scaled so quickly, we need to have some measures in place so that we are not just dependent on our memories 🤪 This form is to ensure we capture everything, so please complete it, no matter how well you think we know you 🙏
