As President of the American Association of Blacks in Energy-(AABE) Delaware Chapter I pride myself with partnering and continuously supporting the first chapter I became a member of, AABE Philadelphia! Led this year by Rasheeda Clark-Smith, M.S. , the Philly chapter held its annual Scholaship Luncheon and awarded 6 scholarships this year to deserving high school Seniors! This year was special as two of the Scholars were from the Delaware area, Vandrick Hamlin III of Caravel Academy and Rashaan Matthews of Howard High School, the Delaware chapter was happy that these students were considered! Special thanks to Sr. Engagement Coordinator Ms. Kerivvah Heard of Comcast, Nancy Mifflin and Grace Baptist Church of Germantown for hosting and to William Bowie, President and CEO of Empower Construction for your sponsorship and continued support of AABE and the students of the Delaware valley, you’re appreciated! Let’s go AABE Delaware Chapter!!!! This morning we were humbled to receive an opportunity from the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce to present at their monthly meeting! Special thanks goes out to Angie Bivins our Membership Chair, Kevin Thompson our Legislative Issues and Public Policy Committee Chair and the DEBCC for this opportunity to make your organization aware of who and what we are!

In the Workforce Development space partnerships are key but so is bridging partnerships with likeminded individuals and organizations!! Today I had the pleasure of introducing Keith Garvey of Campos EPC to my partners at the Energy Coordinating Agency-(ECA). PECO sponsors a Gas Mechanics Lab for individuals in the underserved communities and I was looking for a way to upscale the curriculum! Keith Garvey and I had lunch and he asked how CAMPOS could help with the program since their business is Gas Engineering. Keith listened to my idea to add a Gas-101 module to our existing curriculum to educate the students as to the “WHY” they were installing these gas facilities along with the physical side of it. This will produce a more educated Gas Mechanic that will know the engineering side of the installations they execute in the field. Thank you CAMPOS for funding the Gas-101 training, you truly put your money where your mouth is!!!!!

The American Association of Blacks in Energy’s Delaware chapter braved the heat this morning and tabled a voters registration and membership drive at the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce’s 4th annual Juneteenth event at Levels Park here in Middletown, DE. Thank you Ayanna Khan, M.S. for the opportunity to network with local black businesses and elected officials. In most industries partnerships can make or break the success of an initiative. I’d like to thank Guy Madison and the leadership team at INFRASOURCE SERVICES LLC for hosting my team and a few of our Helpers for a phenomenal information session on the PECO Helper program. The Infrasource team was impressed with the stories of our Helpers and were amazed at how much our Helpers who had zero experience represented themselves well in front of people they’d never met! What was great was our Helpers acquired a new found respect for contractors and what they actually do for PECO. Most companies talk DEI and “community service” but Infrasource is serious about their efforts! Thank you again Guy Madison for your interest and putting this session together, you are appreciated!

What a great week! PECO’s Workforce Development team was honored to be recognized for our Innovative Jr. Infrastructure Academy! To be amongst so many great Innovators and “out of the box” thinkers was encouraging!

Just 2 years ago this young man was a participant in our 3rd PECO Infrastructure Academy at the Convention Center in Philadelphia. Today he’s a proud Underground Apprentice!! He assisted PECO’s Workforce Development with our 2nd Junior Infrastructure Academy that was at Montgomery Community College on April 19th of this year! Here he gives his take on the Jr. Infrastructure Academy as well as the event that allowed him the opportunity to be hired at PECO, our signature Infrastructure Academy from 2022!!!!
