The attached research from ICSC regarding the Halo Effect between online and in-store retail is compelling. From my days working on the retail side, we always knew that it was critical to meet customers whenever/wherever/however they wanted to engage with us: e-commerce/delivery, pickup, and in-store. And if we weren't world class in one area, it would affect them all. This research provides strong evidence of the lift retailers see with a convenient brick & mortar, last-mile presence alongside an e-commerce platform. China’s 618 shopping festival this year recorded a total gross merchandise volume of over $111 billion according to third-party data provider Syntun. The festival also saw Apple host their first live shopping event which was watched by 1.3 million people. 👀 The show itself was pre-recorded, hosted by product experts and focused on product introductions. Apple have showed how brands can leverage live shopping and create a format that works for their brand. Though live shopping is not as common in the UK it is becoming more accessible for brands of any size to incorporate it in to their business. With Black Friday and dare I say Christmas fast approaching it’s something you might want to think about sooner rather than later.
