We're hiring an Escape Room After School Club Host! We’re looking for a reliable, puzzle-loving host to run our new after-school clubs at primary schools in Brighton! We bring escape rooms to the classroom, providing pen-and-paper based challenges for years 3-6 and introducing them to different types of puzzles, how to solve them and how to create them. Your role will be to set the materials up for the students at each school each week, then help them find hidden messages, crack secret codes and discover mysterious clues to open padlocks and chests. If they get stuck on anything, you are there to help! You will need to be able to commit to ALL termtime dates to provide continuity for the students. This is typically 11 weeks each term as schools usually do not run after-school clubs during the first and last week of term.Experience with children preferred; as is a passion for escape rooms or similar activities (board games, puzzle books, murder mysteries, etc) All materials, full guidance and explanations of all puzzles will be provided. Enhanced DBS check required (which we will assist with and pay for if needed).Times: Sessions run weekdays, term time only. Each session lasts 1 hour and will typically start between 3pm and 4pm (varies by school). Currently confirmed for 3 sessions a week at two schools, but there is scope to extend to 5 session a week.Pay: £36 per session per week. This includes your time to prepare and familiarise yourself with the materials (we do NOT pay extra for that time). This should take on average an hour per session the very first time you run a session. When you run more than one session a week, you won’t need to prepare for subsequent ones but will receive the same pay. Email jobs@pierpressure.co.uk to apply with a CV!

Adjunct Professor - Captain, US Army Civil Affairs- Education Advocate - Curriculum Writer - Education Policy Nerd - TCU Football Fan - Rugby Player
Coming across with another hot take today: I'm seeing a big problem in the policy world, in that policy, advocacy, and lobbying groups want people with policy experience, which I totally understand. But this means that they aren't hiring people with real-world, practical experience in the field. In education, if your policy staff has nobody that was in a classroom during/post-COVID, I can guarantee you have a gap between your legislative advocacy and what real-world schools and teachers need. If policy groups want to be true advocates for their industry, they have to prioritize hiring people with real-world experience.

I've seen so many posts about the pros of hiring moms. They often list skills such as multitasking, the ability to handle whatever is thrown at them, the ability to shift gears easily, etc. These are great, but they all have one thing in common: They promote overwhelming the employee and their ability to deal with it. The one thing I think of when asked why we should hire moms is empathy. Now, you don't have to be a mom to have empathy. Inversely, I've worked with many parents who have zero empathy. However, as a parent who often works from home, I have immense appreciation when I am shown empathy. Whether it's because I am taking a Zoom call with my toddler on my lap or I'm 5 minutes late to a call because someone was crying about a snack. The ability to understand that those instances and circumstances do not make me less serious about my professional role and my goals is enormous. So, what do I do as a working mom? Show empathy whenever I can. Are you late to meet for coffee because the school drop-off line was moving extra slowly today? Been there. Did you forget an important document at home because you're too busy worrying about what everyone else needs for the day? That is no problem. Send it to me later. Need to reschedule AGAIN because your baby is sick and can't go to daycare? What can I do to help? Personally speaking, empathy promotes trust and makes me want to grow a professional relationship with you. Lack of does the opposite.
