Madewell wishes you a Happy Juneteenth and is proud to recognize Black history and heritage not only today, but every day 🖤. For our associates we are honoring the Juneteenth holiday by highlighting Black voices and changemakers and creating opportunities for connection in partnership with our NOIR Associate Impact Group (AIG) with celebrations featuring treats from black owned businesses. For more ways to honor and connect with the Black community on Juneteenth, we recommend following our partner Well-Read Black Girl, founded by Glory Edim as a platform to uplift Black storytellers. Edim has fostered a community where their voices are cherished and celebrated and for the third consecutive year, she worked with Madewell to curate a list of books that explore rich Black history and culture. We are grateful for this holiday as a reflection and celebration of African American resilience and achievement while continuing to inspire efforts toward social justice and unity in the United States. #Juneteenth #BlackHistory #TeamMadewell

Black History Month continues to inspire Board of Child Care! 💛 It reinforces the importance of our core values of fostering relationships within our community and listening to respond with empathy. We encourage our team and community to share, celebrate, and understand the impact of Black heritage and culture. Why? Celebrating Black History Month: ✔️ Allows us to continue our dialogue around race and identity—crucial conversations that are so relevant to our work here at BCC, ✔️ Helps us to address societal and educational imbalances that exist for Black Americans, ✔️ Highlights the contributions of Black Americans and culture that are critically important to the young people we serve, and ✔️ Brings our teams together to learn from one another in activities that are meaningful and engaging, in order to grow our collective understanding of one another. How do you celebrate Black History Month? Let us know in the comments! #bcc #bccstrong #BlackHistoryMonth #culture

As we reflect on the profound significance of Black History Month, we remember that the commitment to recognizing and uplifting the Black experience extends far beyond a single month. It's a continuous journey, reminding us that every day offers an opportunity to center Black voices, challenge the systemic racism that disproportionally impacts them, and honor their contributions to Los Angeles. To learn more about how we are taking collective action in eradicating anti-Black racism and fostering a thriving and inclusive Los Angeles, check out the work of our Black Experience Action Team at theangelenoproject.org #BlackHistoryMonth #blackexperience #theangelenoproject

There’s a few more days left for Black History Month. I’ve been thinking a lot this month about how the rights of the Asian community in the US (which I am a part of) was built on the backs of Black civil rights leaders. Fellow Asian community members, we need to step up our game when it comes to amplifying other marginalized community members. Racism is part of our lived experience, so we understand it, but we also have access to spaces that other marginalized folks don’t. We have the power and privilege – let’s use it wisely. We don’t use it nearly enough. We owe it to Black leaders who paved the way for our own rights to confront anti-Blackness in our own communities and show up for Black folks when it comes to pushing back against systemic racism. And the thing is we’re stronger when we fight against oppressive systems together. Saamiya Seraj, Ph.D and I are hosting a workshop on this topic tomorrow in collaboration with Asian Family Support Services of Austin. It’s free! Come join us if you want to learn about how to be in solidarity with Black folks and uproot Anti-Blackness in your communities. Link to the workshop in the comments.
