To support the local environment, colleagues from our Atlanta office recently volunteered in Piedmont Park for the second year. The volunteers came together to plant, prune, weed, and chop down overgrowth. They also removed shrubs and spread pine needles for landscaping, contributing to a clean and verdant greenspace! #Mapletree #LifeAtMapletree #EmployeeEngagement #CSR

What difference can you make on walks this weekend? Join 26,000 dog owners picking up a couple of pieces of litter on walks to protect animals, communities and our precious environment. It only takes a minute but makes a huge impact - 38 million pieces of litter every year, a few pieces at a time. The truly amazing thing is how great it feels to do something so simple that has an immediate and very visible difference. On #mentalhealthawareness week, why not give it a try and see.... #dogowners #walkingthedog #environmentalcharity #volunteering

Here are your July home maintenance tips. I know some of these aren't that fun (cleaning out drains is a real hair raising experience - pun intended). You can always hire out these less than desirable tasks if you would rather but it is a good idea to stay on top of these things regardless of how you manage it. I do want to talk about grass. Huge yards with a bounty of grass are...let me be frank, a waste. This time has come and gone. It is a waste of water, money and uses space that could be utilized for so many other beneficial things. I've seen some amazing community initiatives where people are sharing their yard with neighbours who don't have the space and they are planting community gardens or building community gathering places. I dunno, what do you think? Has grass seen it's day? What would you like to replace your grass with? #byegrass #esquimalthomes #esquimaltbc #esqbc #yyjhousing #communitygardens #foodnotgrass

🌳 Did you know #OurCounty has increased its annual budget for reforestation efforts by over 70% compared to 2021? 🤔 This has helped us maximize opportunities and double the number of trees planted at parks and green areas, as well as in roadways, at county buildings and in environmentally endangered areas. 🌿 The county is close to finalizing a contract with the USDA to implement a $10 million grant to plant trees primarily on streets in targeted areas over the next five years. 💵 ➡️ 🌲 Programs like Adopt-a-Tree and Million Trees Miami are resulting in an additional 10,000 trees provided to residents to plant each year through free giveaways. 🆓 Last month, Miami-Dade County Office of Resilience was invited to a tree planting event with Coca-Cola Beverages Florida where 80 trees were planted at North Pointe Community Center. 🌱 Our Extreme Heat Action Plan aims to reduce excessive heat by expanding the tree canopy and adding more vegetation across urban areas. ☀️ 🔗 Learn more about our Extreme Heat Action Plan: https://lnkd.in/e9G3f_qc 🔗 Learn more about how you can Adopt-a-Tree for FREE: https://lnkd.in/g_xPUPNk #miamidade #miamidadecounty #miami #officeofresilience #resilience #southflorida #resilient305 #heatseason #extremeheat #trees #volunteers #plantatree #arborday

To wrap up #EarthMonth, this weekend I graduated from Forest ReLeaf of Missouri's Tree Stewardship program, which included 12 hours of classroom instruction and 15 hours of volunteer work. Over the past month, I participated in some local volunteer activities, including: 🌳 Planting trees along the Great Rivers Greenway 🌱 Potting tree seedlings at the Forest ReLeaf nursery 🌷 Pulling tulips at the Missouri Botanical Garden 🚮 Picking up trash and removing invasive species with Open Space STL 🧤 Mulching and pruning park trees with STL Neighborhood Foresters The most important thing I learned during this program ... There are some amazing organizations in St. Louis making our city a greener, healthier and more beautiful place to live. If you're like me and at times feel overwhelmed by the immense amount of work needed to safeguard our environment, go out and give a few hours of your time at one of these (or similar) organizations. You'll feel better knowing that you made a lasting and positive impact on your community. That, and say no to mulch volcanoes 😉 (Seriously though, they're awful for trees.) If you're in the St. Louis region, please check out these incredible organizations. #volunteer #arborday #earthday #stlouis #sustainability #community #conservation

Litter costs money. In 2022, litter cleanup cost the Missouri Department of Transportation $7.7 million and is projected to cost $9 million in 2023. This cost affects all Missourians. Litter also affects organizations such as businesses, city councils, local communities, and educational facilities, making the money used for litter clean-up not available for more positive use in the community. Impact on Wildlife: Litter can have a negative impact on both land and water-dwelling wildlife. Animals can ingest inedible materials, such as plastic packaging and cigarette butts. Insufficient quantities, these materials may poison the animal or cause it to starve by blocking its intestinal tract. We thank all those who have spent time to keep our community clean, healthy, and happy! Volunteer today! Interested in getting involved with our City government? There are opportunities for folks of any age or ability to get involved just once or to join an ongoing program. Volunteering is a rewarding way to serve your city, meet new people, have fun, and learn something new! www.como.gov/volunteer/ 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝘆. The City of Redding's Adopt-A-Spot Program encourages community members to take an active role in litter abatement. The Adopt-a-Spot program invites community members to help beautify Redding by volunteering to clean up litter along a block, trail, or street segment of their choice. The City will provide the supplies, safety equipment, and litter collection services. Individuals, groups, or businesses who commit to volunteering for at least four (4) cleanups per year can have a sign installed with their name on it, symbolizing their dedication to positively impacting Redding. The adoption of trails and specific areas isn’t a new concept in Redding. The City has provided the opportunity to volunteer for many years, but a recently revitalized Downtown has renewed the need for everyone to help keep our spaces vibrant and clean. It doesn’t require a large group or time commitment to make an impact. Individuals, families, friends, neighbors, coworkers, businesses, schools, church groups, and community organizations can invest a small amount of time and energy to beautify their community through the Adopt-a-Spot program. “Keeping Redding clean and beautiful isn’t difficult. Take a few minutes every day, week, or month to tidy up your street, a favorite trail, or an area that needs some extra attention. Our hope is that the Adopt-a-Spot program helps encourage the community to play a part in the process. One person can make an impact here,” says Kim Niemer, Director of Community Services. You can participate in the Adopt-a-Spot program with four easy steps: 1. Sign Up: Choose a trail, street, or block you want to clean. 2. Request Supplies: You’re doing the work. The City will provide the supplies. 3. Clean Up: Schedule a time that works best for you, and clean up your spot with others or by yourself. 4. Report Cleanup: By cleaning up at least four (4) times a year, you can earn a sign with your name on it. Even if you can’t clean up four times a year, the City of Redding invites you to be a part of the ongoing effort to make an impact right here at home in a way that works for you. Whether you want to make a difference with a truckload of trash or just a few pieces picked up along your daily walk, any contribution you make to cleaning up our community is greatly appreciated. Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign up on their behalf. For additional details on Adopt-a-Spot, including detailed steps and frequently asked questions, please visit https://lnkd.in/gDvMBR2W. #CityOfRedding #AdoptASpot #LitterAbatement #CommunityCleanUp #DowntownRedding #ReddingCalifornia

Having studied the impacts that rewilding can have on our planet as well as the joy that wilder landscapes provide those who venture into them, I'm delighted to see that projects such as this getting the attention and funding they deserve! Now all that needs to be done is to increase the scope and scale of rewilding, as well as community involvement, and we'll be on step closer to reversing biodiversity degradation and creating a safer and more beautiful world. #rewilding #conservation #climatechange #climateaction #greeninitiatives
