I’ve never recommended a book that’s gotten more genuine reactions of interest and curiosity than Alice Katter’s Reimagining the Nature of Work. Definitely says something about my friend group, but more so, how much Alice and the Out of Office Network are tapping into something a lot of people intuitively understand: work is changing, and it’s time to get creative with how we organize ourselves.

A paradigm shift in how we work and live is unfolding. With "Reimagining our Nature of Work" we share our learnings in public, and with that, are inviting others into this world 🌿 With the book, and all I do, I aim to promote a shift from a work-centered, to life-centered existence, to cultivate more engaged, authentic, and vibrant lives, invest in and discover what makes you feel most alive. How that might look like: ✋ Don’t let work overtake your life. 🎨 Break away from the daily rut and diversify your everyday experience. 🌀 Live and work according to the rhythms of your day and the seasons of your life. 🐢 Slow down to experience the world around you. 👀 Be in awe of what’s possible. ✨ Discover and invest in what makes you feel most alive. Come join us and step into a new way of working and living 🧡 Ps. If you're curious about the book, you can grab a copy here: https://lnkd.in/eXPGGTbC

Is the office becoming obsolete ? Jason Fried, the co-founder and CEO of Basecamp shares his insights into why the traditional office setup may be less effective. Fried emphasises that offices can be interruption factories, with constant meetings, impromptu conversations, and ambient noise disrupting focused work. When we encounter involuntary interruptions , it takes time to get back into focus. Some leaders worry about how much work gets done when people work from home but does working from the office guarantee better productivity? A related topic we need to explore is how we work instead of where we work and update ourselves as leaders. Maybe the question to ask is how can we make the office more conducive to work in?

Are you truly organized or just somewhat organized? Today was one of those days where it felt like nothing was getting done, but I persisted in organizing and tidying up, and the progress is undeniable. Sometimes, all it takes is organizing our lives to gain clarity and momentum. A few easy organization tips: • Declutter Often: Regularly purge items you no longer need to reduce clutter. • Establish Systems: Create consistent organization methods, like labeling or color-coding. • Prioritize Tasks: Make daily or weekly to-do lists and focus on urgent tasks first. • Utilize Tech: Use digital tools to manage appointments and tasks, reducing paper clutter. I resonate with Julia Cameron's words, "Clutter is the enemy of clarity." And Meagan Francis's insight: "Cleaning and organizing is a practice, not a project." Organizing can feel daunting, but if we make it a daily habit, it becomes a practice rather than a project. Get rid of clutter and you may just find that it was blocking the door you've been looking for. I'm committed to improving my daily organizational habits. #practice #Organization #dailyhabits #reducestress #reduceanxiety #timesaving #efficiency

Motivation tool: keep a visual tracker This is one of my favourite takeaways from Cal Newport’s Deep Work. Although he was writing specifically about tracking the amount of ‘deep’ work hours you complete, the same logic can be used for celebrating our commitment to our goals. On your calendar, you write a cross, tick (or choose another symbol for each goal you’re working on) and every time you engage in an activity relating to that goal, mark it on your calendar. The visual representation of your success is a strong motivator. It becomes almost taboo to then ‘break the chain’! Try it out; I promise it’s a very effective strategy! I caught myself describing to a colleague yesterday how busy I was. I swore I would never do that. It's unhelpful as the work in schools never ends and there is always something more to do. What made it even more surprising was that I had just finished listening to Cal Newport's new book titled Slow Productivity: The Lost Art of Accomplishment Without Burnout. The premise of Slow Productivity is threefold; Do fewer things, work at a more natural pace and obsess over quality. A useful reminder and antidote to "busyness." I highly recommend Cal Newport's writing particularly his book Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World and also A World Without Email: Reimagining Work in an Age of Communication Overload.

Bumping into a bear at work? 🐻 Nope, not the cuddly teddy kind but a challenging colleague! Navigating the office wilderness can get tricky. Certified Professional Organizer & Photo Organizer - Bringing calm to busy professionals homes and photo collections.
Organization can extend to so many parts of our lives - even down to how we spend out time. Setting up systems to help track your time and projects can keep your actions intentional - instead of just reacting to fires that need fighting. Especially for my visual thinkers, having a board like this can help connect the dots so they're always at their most productive state. Moving items into that 'Done' category can be so rewarding too, and so often does our work go without acknowledgment - that little boost of dopamine can help reinforce productive habits you're working so hard to establish. You can also color code your sticky notes for different types of tasks - being able to take in a lot of information about what needs doing at a glance can be so helpful. Setting one of these up on a white board allows you to add extra notes or categories as there needed - its a great flexible framework to help propel you forward!
