Yesterday Rachel Perkins, a wonderful Australian filmmaker and daughter of Charlie gave a most remarkable speech said what the attached 1,860 company directors support. "The Voice will speak to Parliament, but it will also bring an eye and an ear to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This relationship will be dynamic and ongoing. And it will involve hard work, critical judgment, tough decisions, honesty, accountability, compromise and imagination in equal proportions." She then said what those of us who have read and understood for a long time. "It will have to balance competing interests claims, relative merits, long and short-term goals. It must establish what is working and what is not. And it must represent all indigenous communities, not just a few and it must encourage new voices, especially young voices. It must focus on the deepest problems in the most dire need. It will be according to principles like these that advice is formed and given to policymakers. The Voice will be like any other representative body in a democracy. And among other things, that means it will not be perfect, but it will have effect and if it doesn't, well after a decade and if we've made no more progress with the Voice than without it. Well, the government will have the power to reconstitute it and remake it to improve its function. So what is to lose by giving it a chance?" On October 14 in less than 3 weeks we will show that we have been listening and at heart we are a nation that has shown we believe in giving everyone a fair go. We will do the right thing. #DirectorsForTheVoice #VoteYes Janice van Reyk, FAICD, FCPA Ming Long AM Thomas Mayo Victor Perton Deidre Willmott Rebecca Kardos Rebecca Campbell-Burns Mei Ling Doery @Ernest Stabek Kate Carnell Kate Pounder Rob Fitzpatrick Gary Kent Larry Marshall Danielle Neale Russel Howcroft Chris Leptos AO Li Cunxin AO

As we come together to celebrate Independence Day, it's essential to remember the values and principles that this day represents. Our nation’s independence is a testament to the courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of freedom, justice, and equality. In the spirit of these values, I encourage everyone to reflect on the importance of ethical leadership and accountability in all facets of life, particularly in law enforcement. For over four decades, I have witnessed the profound impact that integrity and ethical standards can have on building trust and fostering strong community relations. Ethics-Based Policing is not just a professional obligation; it is a moral imperative. By embracing a culture of accountability and upholding the highest ethical standards, we honor the sacrifices of those who fought for our freedom and ensure that the principles of justice and equality continue to thrive in our communities. On this Independence Day, let us recommit ourselves to these ideals. Let us celebrate not only our freedom but also our shared responsibility to uphold the values that define our great nation. Together, we can create a future where trust, confidence, and cooperation between the public and law enforcement are not just aspirations but realities. Happy Independence Day to all. May it be a day of reflection, gratitude, and renewed dedication to the principles that make our nation strong. #sacrifice #july4th #independenceday #freedom

Important take away from this article: "Lawyers take an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution and the constitution of the state in which they are admitted to practice. Disavowing election results based on unproven theories, and then filing a lawsuit against elected officials asserting frivolous legal claims violates these oaths." Thanks to Clark Hill Law's Chris Trebilcock for writing about this important issue.
