Scorching heatwaves are testing our climate-changing world’s resilience. The past few months have seen parts of the U.S. brace for a record heat wave, with wildfires spreading in the West, Greece closed the Acropolis due to extreme heat, causing tourist casualties and more than a dozen pilgrims succumbed to heatstroke during the Hajj. By May, 1.5 billion people experienced life-threatening heat, and global temperatures have consistently broken records. Human activities caused 92% of last year’s warming, making it the hottest on record. By 2030, 4 billion people will face extreme heat, escalating to 5 billion by mid-century. This climate crisis highlights a growing global divide, with wealthier regions experiencing milder winters while poorer countries face deadly heat without adequate resources. Vulnerable communities feel increasingly helpless, with women and the poorest households most at risk. Collectively as an industry we're seeing more of a need to find sustainable solutions to counteract the increasingly severe fallout from climate change.
