June 23 is International Woman in Engineering Day. Fluor Corporation celebrates it by featuring female engineers around the globe providing encouraging advice to those young women who wish to pursue a career in engineering. This is mine: A career in Engineering offers endless possibilities. Working as an Engineer allows you to develop technical skills but also analytical thinking and managerial capabilities. Get started choosing the engineering branch that makes you more excited, because then the path to success will be half paved with passion already. Build on your strengths and keep always learning and enhancing your personal skillset. Development opportunities will cross your way in multiple directions, make your career choices from within, following a path that makes you grow but foremost makes you happy. Own your career.

Navigating careers in engineering poses unique challenges for women, from breaking stereotypes to combating gender biases. Despite strides in inclusivity, women in engineering often face hurdles due to preconceived notions and unequal opportunities. Overcoming these barriers requires resilience, determination, and a strong support network. It involves proving capabilities in a traditionally male-dominated field and advocating for gender parity in all spheres of engineering. The journey for women in engineering demands not only technical proficiency but also perseverance in a landscape where diversity remains an ongoing battle. Today is International Women's Day 2024, it's exciting to know that our professional and personal networking sites will be flooded with posts celebrating women's vital contributions to society but on reflection, what relevance does that have to me in recruitment and Engineering? Reflecting on my journey as a recruiter who specialises in the male-dominated world of #Engineering, for me, it's about celebrating the women who are breaking barriers and reshaping inclusivity in STEM. International Women's Day serves as a reminder of the great gains we've made in achieving true gender equality, with some distance still yet to go. It's so encouraging to see the inspirational female students and talent emerging through the University of Newcastle as budding engineers. Promoting women in STEM isn't just about gender diversity, but about unlocking innovation and driving talent by embracing the value and unique perspectives and talents women bring to the table. June 23rd marked the 11th International Women in Engineering Day #INWED. 2024 - 30 by 30: Turning Knowledge into Action for Gender Equity in Engineering. I am excited to be attending this conference in-person next week put on by Engineers Canada. https://lnkd.in/gEBC9aHP Engineers Canada is working to increase the representation of women within engineering through its 30 by 30 initiative. This initiative, first conceived by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) in 2010, was adopted by Engineers Canada as the national goal of raising the percentage of newly licensed engineers who are women to 30 per cent by the year 2030. Thirty per cent is universally held as the tipping point for sustainable change—reaching 30 by 30 will help drive the shift in the overall membership of the engineering profession as more and more women continue to enter the profession.

Today, on International Women in Engineering Day, we recognize the incredible achievements of women engineers globally and the strides we continue to make in this traditionally male-dominated field. Engineering is not just about designing structures; it’s about creating solutions that improve our world. Each day, I am inspired by the innovative spirit, resilience, and determination of my fellow female engineers. We are breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and proving that gender is no limit to greatness. At Stantec I am fortunate to work in an environment that values inclusivity, supports professional growth, and encourages us to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
