Amazon and Walmart remain the biggest online fashion retailers in the United States, according to ECDB. These giants reported apparel net sales of $12.3 billion and $8.9 billion in 2023, respectively. However, a relative newcomer, the Chinese company Shein, has secured the third spot among the biggest online fashion retailers in the country. 🌟 Specializing in trendy fashion products and offering new items almost continuously, Shein's strategy of providing fast fashion at rock-bottom prices has paid off. Despite only launching in the U.S. around 2017, Shein has surpassed U.S. legacy retailer Macy's and Nike, which ranked 4th and 5th with 2023 fashion net sales of $6.4 billion and $4.5 billion, respectively. #Retail #RetailNow #Ecommerce #FashionRetail #Shein #Amazon #Walmart #RetailTrends #FastFashion #OnlineRetail Source: https://lnkd.in/dwEn4Dv9

L’Oréal Luxe, E-Commerce Director Europe Key Accounts: Online Pure Players & Marketplaces | Ex Commercial Director, Joom Global Marketplace | E-Commerce Director, L'Oréal Consumer Products
#Fashion is the biggest #ecommerce category in most of EU markets and it is the biggest growth opportunity for #Amazon. According to Foxintelligence Amazon is far from being the biggest fashion retailer in the top European markets. Zalando ASOS.com Vinted are struggling to grow, yet still beat Amazon. SHEIN growth is striving challenging both local leaders and Amazon. Temu and AliExpress are also catching up. Sometime ago Amazon has lowered 3P commissions on low priced fashion to win the competition. Yet has a long road ahead to win. In my perspective, Fashion & FMCG could become (if not yet) a strategic goal for Amazon: - Fashion drives profit - #FMCG drives frequency Winning in both is pivotal to grow shopper base, loyalty and keep high pace of growth in the future. Interesting shift in the US online fashion market! According to ECDB, Shein, a fast-fashion retailer from China, has become the third biggest player, surpassing established names like Macy's and Nike. Here's the breakdown: Top Dogs: Amazon and Walmart remain the leaders with apparel net sales of $12.3 billion and $8.9 billion respectively in 2023 (no surprise there!). New Challenger: Shein disrupts the scene with $10.3 billion in sales, specializing in trendy items at rock-bottom prices. They're constantly refreshing their stock, but their business practices have also drawn criticism. Traditional Brands Left Behind: Macy's and Nike follow with $6.4 billion and $4.5 billion respectively. #shein #ecommerce #ultrafastfashion

SHEIN and Temu are thieves across Europe. It's true - at least in terms of MAU market share. At the start of 2019, Shein had nearly the same market share as H&M at 27%. But H&M saw a 10% erosion while Shein jumped to 44%. Temu had similar results as it penetrated the European market with an immediate gain of 19%. And they're not alone with ASOS.com ZARA SA, and Zalando suffering a similar decline. In response to competition from Shein, Amazon is lowering its referral fees for clothing items priced under $15 from 17% to 5%. For products priced between $15 and $20, the referral fee will decrease from 17% to 10%. This move aims to allow sellers to reduce prices and maintain the same margin, making Amazon's clothing category more competitive. While Amazon remains more expensive than Shein, especially in terms of fulfillment costs, the fee reduction is a response to Shein's impact on the online fashion market. Shein, known for its bargain prices, has become a significant competitor in the clothing sector, leveraging a dynamic supply chain and a strong online presence (Source: Marketplace Pulse By: Juozas Kaziukenas). #amazonseller #amazonfba #amazonnews

#Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) is reducing its seller fees for certain clothing items in response to the growing competition from #Shein. The e-commerce giant will cut the referral fee from 17% to 5% for apparel priced under $15 and from 17% to 10% for items priced between $15 and $20. The move is seen as a strategic response to Shein, a major player in the online fashion market, particularly known for its affordable clothing and dynamic supply chain. While Amazon remains the largest clothing retailer in the US, its high fees have made it one of the most expensive platforms for sellers. The fee reduction is an attempt to make Amazon more cost-competitive in the clothing sector, where Shein has gained prominence. Despite the price adjustment, Amazon faces challenges in matching Shein's unique advantages, including lower fulfillment costs and a strong social media presence. Amazon targets the low-price fashion market by slashing the platform commission rate to compete with Shein, a Chinese online fast fashion retailer that has become popular among young consumers around the world. What this means: - Sellers will part with only a 5% fee for apparel under $15, trimming down decisively from the previous 17%. - Items tagged between $15-$20 are now subjected to a new 10% fee threshold. This isn't a mere discounting spree. This is a cunning move to dilute Shein's clout - potentially influencing their much-anticipated 2024 IPO thunder. Factor in the aggressive strategies by newcomers such as Temu, coupled with TikTok’s e-commerce ambitions in the US, and one can only imagine the impending retail showdown. What does a seemingly innocuous fee cut mean for the future of fast fashion? Certainly, Amazon-savvy brands now have looming prospects of diving deeper into profitability. As the landscape gets fiercer: Could this be Amazon's masterstroke or just a tardy play in the discount dynasty? #EcommerceStrategy #RetailCompetition #AmazonVsShein #FashionRetail #OnlineShoppingTrends #MarketDisruption
