"Self-Inflicted" brain injuries...what a stupid, sophomoric, self-serving, misleading headline; as if the final result desired of the training event (or combat action) was a bad case of TBI. Words mean things MilitaryTimes.com. Do better. This headline makes it sound like these injuries were inflicted intentionally because there weren't enough framing hammers or cinder blocks lying around for folks to hit themselves in the face with. I guess it's "self-inflicted" in the same way folks self-inflict small arms sucking chest wounds and/or a traumatic amputations via RPG rounds / IED / IDF rounds....you know, the unfortunate sufferer did chose to put themselves into harm's way when they volunteered to join their Branch of Service... TBI is far too serious of a matter to have to put up with more journalistic ineptitude. Who vets these "articles?" Are functioning editors not a thing anymore or are the really, really stupid decisions the result of DEI groupthink hellbent on sensationalism or simply letting the young, angry "D" team grind a few axes at the fighting folk's expense because 'patriarchy?' TBI sufferers deserve better..so...much...better. Again, words mean things MilitaryTimes.com. Do better. Do better now or just stop and open a T-Shirt kiosk...I hear Che Guevara / Gavrilo Princip are really popular with the kids these days. https://lnkd.in/ecSXqHqg
Everyone wants answers on brain injuries associated with blast affects. We should all be yelling from the rafters to add high speed boats impacts to this effort. Did you know that a 180lb operator that sustains a 10g impact experiences 1800 pounds of force on their body. They experience this numerous times per mission. It doesn’t matter is you are SWCC, NECC, Coast Guard etc. Mother Nature has a vote and quality of life is being taken from our young warriors.

Good afternoon folks, CDP had quite an eventful night last night. Probably something to do with the full Moon. The below video shows a call out to support our partnership agencies with a suspicious circumstances vehicle. Upon arrival, you will see that they were eager to surrender by sticking their hands up. We don't carry guns just loaded dogs, they weren't even at 'dog point' before surrendering. It turns out that they had been doing the nitrous oxide balloons. 🤔 **Turn the sound on for the video** #cdpolicing #dogsection #securitypatrols #response #ServicePartners #balloons #nitrousoxide #surrender #dogpoint #WeOwnTheNight https://lnkd.in/e8VbihNr **Turn the sound on for the video** #cdpolicing #dogsection #securitypatrols #response #ServicePartners #balloons #nitrousoxide #surrender #dogpoint #WeOwnTheNight

Join us at this year’s International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference in San Diego, California, USA, October 14 – 17th, https://lnkd.in/dRtwBN_v. PRESS RELEASE: ARC's Ballistic Shield Panels Dominate Independent Testing, Raising the Bar for Law Enforcement and Military Protection. August 2023— Ken Hall, CEO, observed testing of ARC’s new and existing lines of ballistic shield panel designs at the Oregon Ballistic Laboratory in Salem, Oregon, an independent ballistics testing facility certified by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) of the US Department of Justice to conduct product testing and verification compliance to NIJ standards on behalf of the Department. It is ARC’s philosophy that while testing, we not only verify our product meets or exceeds NIJ standards, but ARC’s management also tests every product for failure. This method provides data which improves the predictability of product performance in real life scenarios. While ARC’s existing product performed as anticipated surpassing NIJ Level III, rifle rated and special threat standard for the number of rounds in each required caliber including M193, M80 copper and Type 56 MSC, ARC’s new panel prototypes exceeded performance while sacrificing an average of only 8 oz in overall weight. Tests were first performed on all panels to meet minimum NIJ testing standards. After confirmation that all panels passed, OBL continued testing until ballistic failure was observed. All panels exceeded 22 rounds of M193, AR-15, 5.56x45mm before any degradation of performance was observed. ARC’s new prototype panels exceeded 25 rounds. The testing continued using M80 Ball, 147 grain, 7.62x51 and the hard-hitting Type 56 Chinese AK, 7.62x39. In every case, the panels exceeded the NIJ standard for each threat / caliber. The original design out-performed the new design by a small factor for the 5.56 NATO round and the new design modestly out-performed the former with 7.62 variations. A final round of testing was dedicated to thermal cycling and performance data. OBL subjected a new panel to a temperature elevation for several hours simulating being stored in the trunk of a patrol or tactical vehicle. The panel was allowed to cool overnight. The following day the panel was reheated until fully normalized. The panel was removed from the oven and immediately subjected to three rounds of M193, returned to the oven until normalized and shot with three rounds of M80 Copper. The process was then repeated with rounds of Type 56 MSC. The panel experienced zero failures. This test is not an NIJ requirement, but in our opinion, is one of the most important performed as it shows our shield will maintain efficacy when stored and transported in real world situations. ARC’s dedication to research and testing ballistic armor reflects its desire to produce the finest ballistic protection available, worldwide.

PFEW National Board member, Zac Mader, highlights in this article published by Policing Insight the benefits that the lighter, improved and gender specific third-generation body armour offers police officers. Zac discussed with Ben Hoyte, former military paramedic and physiotherapist at The Ben Fund, the implications of using outdated body armour on all forces, the impact it has on resources and long-term health outcomes for police officers. The conclusion that the lighter, gender-specific third-generation body armour can help forces save resources in the long term really reinforces our position that all police chiefs should invest now in this new and improved body armour as a matter of urgency. White House Meeting with State Officials on Gun Safety Senior White House staff held a meeting with approximately 70 state legislators, governors’ office staff, and other state leaders to discuss implementation of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act’s enhanced background checks for young people under age 21. Already, these enhanced background checks have stopped hundreds of transfers of firearms to the hands of individuals under age 21 who are prohibited from purchasing firearms. Officials from the U.S. Department of Justice explained how the enhanced background checks process works. To maximize the benefits of this provision, the White House urged state leaders to help implement the enhanced background checks by pursuing the following three actions: Encourage state repositories of relevant juvenile mental health and criminal justice records to respond to enhanced background checks inquiries; Encourage local law enforcement to respond to enhanced background check inquiries; and Make changes, if needed, to state privacy laws to ensure those laws do not prohibit states from providing to the federal background check system information relevant to the enhanced background checks.

And this lively and important debate continues. Personally, definitely like "protected" over "lower cost" any day. Key is finding that happy medium of "how many by type" to have in the total force, as the enemy and terrain always have a vote, is the right question to ponder further. When it comes to towed systems, definitely need a better prime mover, I most of us can all agree about that fact. "Both sides in the towed vs. self-propelled debate make strong arguments. Advocates of self-propelled howitzers point to their superior protection and their ability to rapidly displace after firing. Supporters of towed guns cite their lower cost, lighter weight, and improved setup times." https://lnkd.in/eMc72-_4
For 250 years, US troops could tow their cannons around the battlefield. The war in Ukraine shows they won't have that luxury in the future.

At Lenco we’re committed to making the jobs of first responders safer with innovative and efficient vehicles that answer the needs of their ever-evolving duties. Today, medics are increasingly becoming a crucial part of tactical teams, with the need to be trained and protected in the line of fire. In a new blog post, various agencies describe how they have found a need to have these life-saving professionals integrated into the their tactical teams. “'Probably one of the (incidents) that jumps into my mind, not a significant injury, but it showed to me the value of having immediate medical care … I was assigned to deputies on the backside of a building that were breaching an upper door off of like almost like a deck, and the deputy that was breaching, … he followed through with the ram and ended up hitting his hand on the door frame and busted open his hand and started bleeding… For a brief second, he’s out of the fight. He’s bleeding. He’s injured. I was able to pull him aside, wrap his hand quickly and send him back in to finish the mission. It was an example that because the medics were so closely embedded with them, instead of him having to drop out of the fight, we were able to quickly patch him up, let him finish his job, support the other deputies on the scene, and then we could get him proper medical care,' he adds.” Read more at https://lnkd.in/epf7wbZu #BlogPost #FirstResponders #TacticalTeams #TacticalEquipment #RespondtotheCall #LifeSaving #TacticalVehicles #ArmoredVehicles #LencoArmoredVehicles

In the book "Combatives for Tactical Operators," Ruben Rivera and I demonstrate non-deadly force options. Use of force varies between jurisdictions. In this scenario, an operator executes a warrant, and a non-compliant assailant moves forward, ignoring verbal instructions. Hands and feet are easy options to create a safe distance and prevent a weapon grab. Stay tuned for more next week. #tacticaltraining #lawenforcement #selfdefense #defensivetactics #combatives
