Today, we wrap up CommUnity Week, our annual global celebration of our #OneNewell team. This event features five days of programming that highlights our commitment to our employees and the communities where we operate. In support of this year’s theme, Creativity & Innovation, local teams around the world participated in activities like arts and crafts with recycled materials and Sharpie and Paper Mate products in Hammersmith, UK, floral bouquet arranging in Kalamazoo, MI, a hiking challenge in Guangzhou, China, a Newell product giveaway in Manchester, TN and a collaborative values canvas drawn using Sharpie® Creative Markers in Melbourne, Australia. Teams also served their communities through charitable drives and volunteering opportunities, like a book drive in McMinnville, TN, that focused on books about creativity, assembling creative snack kits for Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, and creativity bags for children undergoing cancer treatment in Gastonia, NC and an art activity with seniors in Bristol, UK. We are grateful for our employees’ enthusiasm and participation throughout CommUnity Week. Thank you for celebrating with us! 💙

Is it any surprise that there’s a trust gap between philanthropy and community? Too often, donors come into communities thinking they have the answers, or make tokenizing and extractive attempts at “listening” to community needs. Even well-intentioned community engagement falls prey to harmful practices when the power dynamics at play aren’t acknowledged or interrogated. A paradigm shift is needed to not only heal these harms, but also to bring transformative results. We’re grateful for the opportunity to share learnings and recommendations for centering community in our latest article for Fund for Shared Insight: Why Philanthropy Needs a Community Bill of Rights. In it, we explore how philanthropy can work differently to start to earn trust in their communities by using the Community Bill of Rights as a bridge. Check out the article to learn more and let us know in the comments: how can funders show up differently to foster more fruitful partnerships with community and bring greater impact?

🌟 Just tuned into an incredible online event yesterday hosted by Emma Beeston and Isobel Michael on Giving Circles, and I couldn't wait to share some highlights with you all! 🌟 Giving Circles are truly a game-changer in the world of philanthropy, and yesterday's discussion shed light on their immense potential. From what I gathered, there are numerous benefits to participating in Giving Circles – from giving more generously and strategically to supporting progressive causes and fostering community engagement. It's not just about writing a cheque; it's about actively shaping positive change in our communities while expanding our knowledge and impact. One key message that resonated deeply with me was the importance of diversity in philanthropy. By increasing the diversity of those who give, we can ensure a broader range of causes and organisations receive the support they desperately need. It's about amplifying voices and championing causes that may otherwise go unheard. We mustn't forget that Giving Circles are not a new concept in many cultures. Collective giving has been a cornerstone of communities across the world for centuries, reflecting a deeply ingrained tradition of cooperation and mutual support. This rich history serves as a powerful reminder of the universal values that underpin philanthropy, transcending geographical and cultural boundaries. A particular highlight of the event was learning about the remarkable success story of the Bath Women's Fund. Their journey was not only inspiring but also a testament to the incredible power of collective giving. It's clear that through collaboration and shared purpose, we can achieve remarkable outcomes that benefit us all. I'm feeling incredibly motivated and inspired after yesterday's event, and I can't wait to explore how I can further engage with Giving Circles to make a meaningful difference in the world. 💫 #GivingCircles #Philanthropy #CommunityImpact #DiversityInGiving

Hello LinkedIn Network! Today is Giving Tuesday and I have a few causes that I'd love for you to consider supporting. In no particular order: 1) I'm a member of Empowering Pathways, a grassroots non-profit giving circle that launched in 2022 with the mission of advancing equity in marginalized and underserved communities. All contributions today are being matched, up to $50! If you'd like to join our giving circle (and I would encourage you to do so!), members are a part of four meetings per year and donate $25 monthly. We focus on health, financial inclusion, and K-12 education and have made three grants to date. More info and join here: https://lnkd.in/gJPCKbcZ 2) I'm a board member over at Lloyd EcoDistrict and I cannot speak higher of their team and the impact they've been making in Portland's Lloyd District. As the 1st certified EcoDistrict in Oregon, LED aims to make Lloyd the most sustainable neighborhood in North America by engaging the community, forming partnerships, and developing programs built on the pillars of equity, resilience, and climate protection. Just this morning, I had the pleasure of participating in one of their park cleanups. Help Lloyd EcoDistrict hit their $10,000 fundraising goal and if you give today, you could win a trip for two to Guatemala! Donate here: https://lnkd.in/gXTHxQFQ 3) Usually around this time of year, I'll do a sale for Mudge's birthday with Mudge Fudge. As you've probably been hearing from a lot of other small businesses, money is tight! So this year, I'm offering 20% off fudge orders to anyone who donates to Mudge's dog rescue, STREET SAVVY DOG RESCUE. Just send me a message with your donation receipt and I'll send you a code! Donate here: https://lnkd.in/g9QtWzEu 4) I'd be remiss not to mention Clackamas Service Center Inc. They're incredible. I don't even have the words to express how great the team is and the services they provide. I'm honored to consider them "co-workers" since I share their kitchen for Mudge Fudge. I just placed a big order of new kitchen supplies for them and it would mean so much to me if you would support their work as an inclusive "one-stop" community center for individuals and families seeking food relief and resources for improved health, dignity, and stability. Donate here: https://cscoregon.org/ Thank you!

The philanthropy landscape is constantly evolving and a recent study from the Community Foundation of the Ozarks has shown that the younger generation has different habits when it comes to giving back. According to the study, individuals under 40 have unique approaches to philanthropy compared to their parents. It's important for us to understand these generational differences and adapt our strategies accordingly. Let's continue to work towards making a positive impact in our communities and beyond. #philanthropy #givingback #generationaldifferences

Although the creative sector is regularly celebrated for the beauty and color it contributes to the region, it can be viewed by donors as a nice-to-have amenity, not a need-to-have asset, writes Sally Dix, executive director of Bravo Greater Des Moines, in our Pillars of Philanthropy magazine. "How do donors compare the value of the number of meals provided against the spark of imagination ignited when a class of third graders hears the symphony play for the first time?" she writes. "How does the number of affordable housing units built measure up to the impact of seeing your culture elevated and celebrated at a festival that draws thousands? When there are so many immediate, critical community issues to invest in, how do donors measure and place value on the impact of a standing ovation? And who gets to decide for anyone else whether creativity and beauty are essential?" Food and shelter are basic and essential needs, and beauty can provide comfort, resilience, wisdom, and the means for self-expression and connection, which are essential to belonging and identity. Embracing the Spirit of Giving: A Personal Reflection As #Christmas approaches, it's a time when our hearts are filled with warmth, and we find joy in the act of giving. The essence of giving goes beyond the materialistic exchanges; it's about making a meaningful impact on the lives of others and creating a positive ripple effect in our communities. For me, giving is a way of expressing gratitude for the blessings I've received and acknowledging the interconnectedness of humanity. This giving season, I reflect on the various ways in which giving has played a profound role in my life. #GivingSeason: A Tradition of Generosity Growing up, it was instilled in me the value of giving back. Whether it was volunteering at local shelters, contributing to food drives, or participating in community events (usually at the #Sikh temple), the spirit of giving became a cherished tradition. These experiences taught me that even small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in someone else's life. #GivingTuesday: A Worldwide Movement In recent years, the global movement of #GivingTuesday has given us an opportunity to come together as a community and amplify the impact of our collective generosity. It's a day to transcend boundaries, cultures, and backgrounds, uniting people in the shared goal of supporting nonprofits and making a positive change in the world. My Giving Story: A Ripple of Impact One of the most rewarding aspects of giving is witnessing the ripple effect it creates. I have had the privilege of helping my local temple to distribute food in the local community, and it has shown me how these actions inspire others to do the same. Those who come for the supplies have a real sense of community and its almost a symbiotic relationship now. Our stories have the power to motivate, encourage, and spark a chain reaction of kindness. Inspiring Others: The True Power of Sharing Stories In a world that often feels divided, the act of sharing our giving stories becomes a powerful tool for unity. Through the lens of social media and platforms like LinkedIn, we can amplify our narratives and inspire others to join the movement. The more we share, the more we demonstrate that the stories we tell can translate into real-world impact. Together, Let's Make a Difference Let's create a wave of positivity, empathy, and generosity that transcends the digital realm and transforms into real-world action. Together, we can inspire others to support nonprofits and make a lasting impact on the lives of those who need it most. Remember, the spirit of giving is not limited to a season—it's a year-round commitment to helping others selflessly, and this in turn will end up benefitting everyone – including you!

Investing in our community is not just about financial contributions; it's about actively engaging and giving back in meaningful ways. Today, our sales leadership team exemplified this commitment by swapping computers and meetings for flowers, mulch, rakes, and shovels, partnering with the City of St. Charles, MO to beautify a part of our city. At Krey Distributing Company, we understand the importance of leading by example and fostering a culture of giving back. By dedicating our time and efforts to this volunteer project, we not only improved the physical appearance of our community but also strengthened our team bond over a shared mission for the betterment of others. It's not just about selling beer; it's about being an active and responsible member of the communities we serve. Whether it's sponsoring local events, supporting charitable organizations, or volunteering our time, we are committed to making a positive impact beyond just our business operations. We encourage everyone to find ways, big or small, to give back to their communities. Together, we can create a brighter future for all - a future with more cheers. 🍻 #CommunityEngagement #CorporateSocialResponsibility #Volunteerism #TeamBuilding #MakingADifference

What do you sell to people, to businesses, or to conventions - what is the pitch these days? Is the product better than ever? Following a night where Toledo’s Mayor talked about fair and unfair perceptions about Toledo - how does that translate into proactivity or apathy? Toledo’s always wanted to be more - and there are those who are trying to make it happen - but it seems like there are those who want to keep it right where it is or where it’s been. Is perception reality? Tom Cole - Taylor Automotive Family Community Outreach Terry Crosby - Taylor Automotive Family Community Outreach This night will be about philanthropy – and the good work that they’re doing as community ambassadors for the Taylor Automotive Family. We hear all the time about the need for local organizations - that have the ability – to pick up the ball and get it across the goal line – and you guys are truly doing that. What one story has touched them – where they have really understood that the work they’re doing IN the community and WITH the community is making a difference. There have been so many organizations that needed help to make their charity, and their love for others go – HOW does this team show them their worth?
