Celebrate the 4th safely this year. Hand and eye injuries due to fireworks send people to the emergency room every year over the Independence Day Holiday. In order to ensure you can return to work without incident, follow these tips: 🧨Always light fireworks on the ground and never in your hands. 🧨Never put your face over fireworks when lighting them. 🧨Do not use fireworks when intoxicated or impaired. 🧨Follow the directions on packaging. 🧨Do not allow small children to use fireworks. Sparklers burn at 2,000° F and account for 25% of fireworks related emergency room visits. Your best bet is to leave it to the professionals. Search to find where there is a fireworks show in your community. Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇲
Wishing everyone a happy and safe 4th of July! 🎆 Happy 4th of July! Celebrate Safely! 🇺🇸 As we come together to celebrate Independence Day, let’s ensure we do so safely. Here are a few tips to keep in mind: 1. Fireworks Safety 🎇: Always follow local laws and guidelines. Leave the fireworks to the professionals and enjoy public displays instead of handling fireworks at home. 2. Grill with Care 🍔: Keep grills away from structures and overhanging branches. Never leave a grill unattended, and make sure to keep children and pets at a safe distance. 3. Hydrate 💧: Stay hydrated, especially if you’re spending the day outside. Drink plenty of water and avoid excessive alcohol consumption. 4. Sun Protection 🧴🕶️: Use sunscreen with at least SPF 30, wear hats and sunglasses, and seek shade during the peak sun hours between 10 AM and 4 PM. 5. Water Safety 🌊: If you’re planning to swim, ensure everyone knows how to swim, supervise children at all times, and never swim alone. 6. Stay Cool ❄️: Take breaks in the shade or air-conditioned areas to avoid heat-related illnesses. Let’s make this 4th of July a joyful and safe celebration for everyone! Wishing you a wonderful Independence Day! From the Keplar Family

Important update from NORAD!
**Overflight clearance: Santa Claus** Today, Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada’s Security and Defence Relations Division issued overflight and landing clearance to Operation HOHOHO, permitting Santa’s sleigh (radio call sign NUTCRACKER) to conduct “touch and go” landings as required for the period of December 24 to 25, 2023, inclusive. Santa would like to remind everyone that cookies and milk (and carrots for the crew) can continue to be shared, provided proper personal hygiene and food safety precautions are taken. A spokes-elf for Santa announced that the sleigh, complete with a nasal-luminescent guidance system, a.k.a. Rudolph, and with support from 8 flying crew (you know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen), has passed airworthiness assessments conducted by 1 Canadian Air Division, and that NORAD has consented to these overflight activities in support of good children around the globe. Canadian officials are on standby to provide Santa with consular services at more than 260 points of service in over 150 countries worldwide. NORAD will provide Santa with a pre-flight briefing at Canadian Forces Station Alert. A Royal Canadian Air Force CF-18 aircraft will be temporarily deployed to escort the sleigh while in Canadian airspace. Follow Santa’s progress online at NORAD tracks Santa (https://lnkd.in/e-5NX7MS) or on Instagram at @noradtrackssanta_official. Children can speak with a live phone operator to inquire about Santa’s whereabouts by dialing the toll-free number 1-877-HI-NORAD (1-877-446-6723). NORAD Tracks Santa started in 1955, when a Colorado Springs newspaper advertisement provided children with instructions on how to call Santa directly. But the number given was misprinted, so that instead of reaching Santa, the phone rang through to the crew commander on duty at the nearby Continental Air Defense Command centre. Thus began a tradition that NORAD continues to this day. From our “crew” to yours, best wishes for a healthy holiday season in Ottawa and around the world!
