UHUK members work closely with local NHS partners and each other to coordinate care for patients around the clock, every day of the year at patients’ homes and in the community👫 This collaborative approach provides great opportunities for innovation, information sharing and economies of scale. In the North-West of England, for example, UHUK member Mastercall Healthcare is also part of a Greater Manchester Alliance of four macro 24/7/365 Urgent Care providers (the Greater Manchester Urgent Primary Care Alliance. GMUPCA CIC), the first of its kind in GM. Together they have achieved things that would not have been possible alone. Through the remote triaging & enhanced clinical assessment of patients, they have been able to release more than 60,000 ambulance response hours a year. They have also delivered a number of innovative initiatives that have greatly improved patient experience & outcomes. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲? The award recognised GMUPCA provides services across Greater Manchester (GM), including a Clinical Assessment Service, an Urgent Dental Helpline Service and a GM Direct Booking & Single EPR Platform, handling more than a million patients each year. The partners employ c2000 staff and combine more than 100 years’ experience. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗱? - They release around 63,875 ambulance response hours per year 🚑 - More than 600,000 CAS clinical assessments handled with a very low c0.01% complaint rate 🗣 - Establishment of an integrated digital hub which connects seamlessly to Primary Care Practices and Emergency Departments, Urgent Treatment Centres and more, ensuring patient notes are sent ahead to avoid frustrated patient journeys 💻 - Transformed data flows, with single patient record system and direct bookings ⌨ - First in UK process for Emergency Department safeguarding, rolled out to every ED in Greater Manchester 🏥 It’s another example of why UHUK members are so important to the overall health and care system – helping to relieve pressures on emergency services, innovating, partnering, providing top level care and doing it efficiently and effectively. The expansion of private health care in Ontario (and Canada) is a big issue. It's national but also very local in scope. It's a large a large issue and a narrow one as well. While Bill 60 looks to shift more surgeries out of hospitals and into new or expanded private clinics, there will certainly be further opportunities to advance health care in Ontario. We shall await further details and regulations regarding the new system. #lifesciences #healthcarelaw

Showcasing Best Practice in Integrated Urgent Care: providing outstanding Quality and Safety: NEMS Community Benefit Services - Clinical Management Team. Coming out of the pandemic in 2021, the new (CMT) at NEMS set out to turn around the composition of its workforce mix that had been deteriorating over a number of years. Amongst others, benefits to NEMS have been to provide more assurance to its clinicians that they have support from clinical colleagues that see NEMS as their long-term home, who are invested in quality and improvements. There is widespread variation in meaningful patient involvement across the 42 Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) of NHS England. From research and analysis conducted by The Medical Technology Group, it is apparent that where a patient lives that is the biggest determinant to whether they are involved in their care meaningfully, or at all. However, there are promising instances of best practices scattered throughout the ICSs. The primary objective of this report is to spotlight these examples of best practice while providing concrete policy recommendations to ICSs, NHS England, and the Department of Health and Social Care. At last, a bit of common sense! (Not another 10 point plan????) But is it too sensible for our post truth politicians? 1. Create digital health accounts for patients, called patient passports, accessed through the NHS app to book appointments, order prescriptions, view records, test results or referral letters and contact clinicians. 2. Tackle waiting lists by introducing a national programme of weekend High-Intensity Theatre (HIT) lists once a month in 50 hospitals to get through a week’s worth of planned operations in a day and create seven-day surgical hubs. 3. Reform the GP contract to focus on wider health outcomes rather than box-ticking, ensure patients get prompt appointments and restore continuity of care. Encourage more super-practices and create community health centres. 4. Write off student loans for doctors, nurses and midwives who stay in the NHS to improve retention as well as recruitment. Debt should be cut by 30 per cent for those who stay three years, 70 per cent for seven years and 100 per cent for ten years. 5. Introduce no-blame compensation for medical errors with settlements determined according to need to ensure families get quick support and encourage the NHS to learn from mistakes. 6. Establish a National Care System giving everyone the right to appropriate support in a timely fashion. Equal but different from the NHS, it should be administered locally and delivered by a mixture of the public and private sectors. 7. Guarantee that all children and young people requiring mental health support can get access to treatment within four weeks and rapid follow-up appointments. Publish data on waiting times for all mental health services. 8. Tackle obesity by expanding the sugar tax, taxing salt, implementing a pre-watershed ban on junk food advertising and reducing cartoons on packaging to minimise children’s exposure to unhealthy food. 9. Incentivise NHS staff to take part in research, and put the case for research to their patients by giving 20 per cent of hospital consultants and other senior clinicians 20 per cent protected time for research. 10. Establish a Healthy Lives Committee empowered by a legally binding commitment to increase healthy life expectancy by five years in a decade and reduce health inequalities to encourage a long-term approach with cross-party agreement. https://lnkd.in/em9HQmxJ #NHS #healthcare #patientsafety #digitalhealthrevolution
