I conducted our company's town hall meeting yesterday to foster alignment and ensure unified progress. From the feedback from our staff, it was evident that the event was well-received and beneficial. Here are some reasons why regular town hall meetings could be advantageous for your organization: 1. Enhancing Transparency and Fostering Trust 2. Boosting Employee Engagement 3. Encouraging Cohesion and Unity 4. Shaping Company Culture 5. Acknowledging and Celebrating Achievements 6. Facilitating Immediate Feedback As a leader, the most significant value emerged from gaining direct employee feedback. Their perspective on our mission, vision, core values, and future trajectory was enlightening. These insights help pinpoint areas of improvement by bringing to light any potential frustrations or suggestions for enhancement. One of our core values is "Every Voice Matters." We take this very seriously. Whether you're a newcomer or a veteran within our organization, your voice matters and is heard. If this isn't a priority for your company, I'd run. Teamwork makes the dream work! ☑️ Also, there is nothing quite like bringing one of your work besties on a tour around a local manufacturing plant - Art Rouse!! Here’s why: 1) Having a few different perspectives on a tour helps identify from a few sets of eyes where we can help solve challenges with our customer 👀👀 2) It shows the customer we are investing our time and effort on fully understanding their challenges 💪🏼 3) We make this a learning experience for both of us to grow in our profession 🤯 Important to note: Always make the customer aware of who you are bringing and why so they are not overwhelmed! Here is a little known fact about me, before going to Uni I spent a year working at John Lewis in the toy department. I absolutely loved this job! I loved it because of the passion of the people I worked with. Everyone knew what they were doing and the customers came first. Here is why, when I joined everyone did a weeks training behind the scenes learning the culture of John Lewis Partnership and its origins, present by someone that had worked in the store in various departments for a number of years. As well as this I had department specific training on products and services, provided by someone who had worked in that department for a number of years. I was set up for success, I was provided a template on how to provide customer service the John Lewis way, and I was bought in! Not only that but the Chairman visited stores and would chat to partners he passed, even me! One time he praised me for my unique Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles display I had made, no reason other than he was walking past and could tell I had spent time on it. (obviously, Splinter and the gang deserve no less). So I wanted to share this article I found as it is so accurate in my opinion. John Lewis lost it's USP. By letting their experienced professionals go they lost what customers loved about them. People were not going there for good value, they were going there for the customer journey. It’s hard to believe it’s almost been a year since I started this amazing job back in June. Initially, taking the leap was nerve-wracking, considering the distance from my hometown, family, and friends. Yet, it’s undoubtedly been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve been fortunate to join a team with exceptional leadership and an unwavering commitment to excellence and I’m thankful Tommy Wood and Jarrett Darmstatter took a chance on me. I’ve always enjoyed challenging myself with trying to become comfortable with the uncomfortable or the “Grind” as many as my former college wrestling teammates would refer to it. The knowledge and skills I’ve acquired have surpassed my expectations, from basic operating room protocols to detailed product features. I recall when I was first diving into this role, my main worries revolved around the longest screw in our caddies and figuring out which color coordinated with each size. What excites me most is the continual opportunity for growth and learning. There’s still much ground to cover, from developing existing relationships to expanding my expertise in surgical procedures and product knowledge. Hustle and patience are key in this field, traits I’ve come to value deeply. I’m truly thankful for the opportunity to engage in this role daily, striving for personal growth while delivering top-notch services to our customers. I couldn’t imagine embarking on this journey with anyone other than Jarrett Darmstatter, Sione Tupou, and Brendan Keady. Within the community of Smith+Nephew’s culture, there’s a prevailing notion: pressure is a privilege. I’m confident that my team and I not only embrace but embody this pressure, driving us towards excellence. While my career has just begun there are three key takeaways I have found to be some of the most important so far. 1.) The importance of surrounding oneself with a supportive team and network. 2.) Treat others how you would want to be treated…being respectful and considerate goes a long way. 3.) Developing resilience and learning to take constructive criticism in stride are essential for personal and professional growth. It’s all part of the journey towards success in this dynamic industry.

Some career pathways are linear 🥇 Some are entirely up, down and sidewards 📈 Either is perfectly acceptable. This shows the career heights that can be achieved with focus, loyalty and hard work. But this is also shows how organisations with a great culture, and that recognise high performance and achievements, can have incredible staff retention. Providing the right environment for personal and professional development, coupled with making the right hires, can lead to far more employees like Pano. Loyalty comes from the heart. When your team is loyal, it is because they feel their leaders have their best interests at heart, they all care about the mission, and the team, and they know you are there for them. Successful leaders understand well that their team is what makes them successful. Take care and support those who are out front.
