This paper describes how state and local health departments can bolster their health equity efforts. The authors outline 5 themes (I moved 5 to the first place): (5) including impacted communities in the full life cycle of health equity efforts; (1) enhancing the existing health equity evidence base; (2) addressing interdisciplinary public health practice and data needs; (3) recognizing the value of qualitative data; (4) evaluating health equity programs and policies.

I am **so** excited to participate in next week's conversation about "The Politics of Health Equity", hosted by Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and Partners for Advancing Health Equity - Mark your calendars! And what an honor to share the virtual podium with Ella Greene-Moton from the American Public Health Association, Anique Forrester from University of Maryland Medical Center and Caryn Bell from Tulane. The politics of health equity involve a variety of views, beliefs, and factors that affect how health inequity is discussed and how health policies are implemented. Such differing perspectives shape our perceptions of health issues and health disparities experienced by marginalized populations, influencing the actions taken to address them. Political divides and polarization are persistent challenges to implementing initiatives that will serve communities in need and improve health outcomes.
