Led by principal investigator Lisa Bates of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the North Central Region (NCR) Housing Working Group will address what is often considered one of the most important problems for rural communities across the country — the lack of safe, affordable housing accessible to all residents. Collaborating across state boundaries, the NCR Housing Working Group aims to develop research-based rural housing resources and programming to improve rural housing conditions across the region. Currently, seven North Central Region land-grant institutions plan to participate in the working group and include: Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Kansas State University, Michigan State University Extension, Purdue Extension Community Development, University of Illinois Extension Community and Economic Development, Nebraska Extension, and University of Wisconsin-Extension. STRATEGIC PLAN SPOTLIGHT: One of the core values listed in Richland County's Strategic Plan is accessibility, or ensuring services are equitable, available and accessible to all residents. The County’s Neighborhood Improvement Program (NIP) coordinates and funds neighborhood master plans and improvement projects in the community. NIP hosts monthly meetings, called S.P.E.E.D. (Sustainability, Planning, Education, Engagement, Development) events, to provide helpful neighborhood and community information and resources. An upcoming NIP S.P.E.E.D. event, Empowering Seniors Through Community Resources, will educate and inform residents about resources available to seniors in our community. Through these meetings, NIP demonstrates accessibility by ensuring essential information and helpful resources are communicated to residents, making them aware of available services. #Accessibility #CoreValues #StrategicPlan #RichlandCountySC

Yesterday, March 3rd, representatives of California Community Reinvestment Corporation virtually attended the National Housing Conference (NHC)’s “2024 Solutions for Housing Communications” convening. The event featured panels with pro-housing thought leaders, who joined to discuss the importance of accurate, subversive, and poignant storytelling when building public support for housing. Pro-housing advocacy must contend with the misinformed narratives on risk, public feelings of helplessness, and personal apathies that surround housing activism to mobilize all hands available to address the shortage. Outreach efforts must also take comprehensive steps to engage diverse perspectives, with the end goal being to make the fight as collective as possible. Everyone has stock in an equitably housed nation, and engaging with solutions today will invariably improve the future for all. The creation of adequate housing supply is still tentative, but CCRC is committed to both advocacy and action in the continued fight for an equitable housing market. Follow our work to finance affordable housing throughout the state of California on our website at e-ccrc.org/news or here on LinkedIn! #affordablehousing #NHC #SolutionsforHousingCommunications

California Community Reinvestment Corporation (CCRC) was proud to sponsor San Gabriel Valley Consortium on Homelessness’s 2024 Housing Summit: "A New Season: Making Space For Affordable Housing" in San Dimas, CA! In addition to supporting the facilitation of this event, the Summit was also attended in-person by CCRC Relationship Manager Ting Xiao, who canvassed with other housing advocates to understand the implications of public policy on housing in the state of California. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’s first Executive Directive, which streamlines affordable housing permitting, was a pertinent topic of discussion, as well as progress towards housing on faith-based organizations’ land and the future of the YIGBY (Yes In God’s Backyard) movement. Additionally, event attendees discussed methods of destigmatizing affordable housing within communities who oppose further developments. This advocacy work is indispensable to reversing decades of destructive narratives on affordable housing, which hurt the effort to guarantee stability and shelter to all Americans. The data on these important frameworks was made available by University of California, Berkeley’s Terner Center for Housing Innovation, Alliant Strategic Development, City of Pomona and National Community Renaissance. Creative legislative and advocacy solutions continue to move the needle on the housing crisis, and events like the 2024 Housing Summit are key to understanding how best to navigate a constantly changing housing landscape. CCRC is honored to continue fighting for affordable housing alongside other leaders in the industry. #affordablehousing #SGVConsortiumonHomelessness #ExecutiveDirective1 #ED1 #YIGBY

Something happened to Dearborn County. We used to be the community which let our historic downtowns deteriorate. We ignored -- if not abhorred -- the Ohio River. We didn't see much value in artistic and cultural offerings. We had an aversion to working together. Whether it is the IEDC READI program or the recently relaunched OCRA Stellar Pathways program, we are often told that our communities need to go bigger, bolder, and more transformational with our investments and future planning. If you sit back and take inventory, you will realize Dearborn County is already well down this path. Have you seen East Central High School's new natatorium? The snow-making innovation at Perfect North Slopes? What about the concepts for the City of Lawrenceburg Riverwalk project? Or do we realize the milestone that is the new, state-of-the-art cancer center which St. Elizabeth Healthcare just opened in Greendale? We even have one of the most popular night clubs in the Cincinnati area at Hollywood Casino's Boogie Nights. All this right here in lil' ol' Dearborn County. What got into us? What changed our "Humble Hoosier" mentality? Some might say it is just the result of riverboat gaming or Cincinnati's urban sprawl and population growth spilling over state lines into Dearborn County. If you ask me, it came down to visionary leadership and innovators. People which we at One Dearborn have the fortune to engage with each day. We shouldn't scoff at big ideas which appear beyond our grasp. As our track record shows, with the proper buy-in and prioritization, such ideas are more achievable in Dearborn County and Southeast Indiana than we give ourselves credit for. For Dearborn County to succeed in becoming an Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs #StellarPathways designee, we'll need people of many backgrounds, ideas, and desires for our communities to be thoughtfully engaged. It's a big table. I hope you'll pull up a chair.
The Office of Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and OCRA today announced the four finalist regions for the 2024 Stellar Pathways program. Each region earned their finalist designation by demonstrating their ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, implement projects, address challenges, secure additional funding and engage with their communities. Congratulations to the four finalist regions: 🔷 One Dearborn County: Stellar Pathways for Indiana Gateways - includes Dearborn County Economic Development Corp., Dearborn County, Dillsboro and Greendale 🔷 Connect LaGrange County - includes LaGrange County Economic Development Corp., LaGrange County, Town of LaGrange, Shipshewana and Topeka 🔷 Wabash County - includes Wabash County, City of Wabash, North Manchester, Roann, LaFontaine and Lagro 🔷 Warren County Region - includes Warren County and Williamsport For more information, read the full release here: https://lnkd.in/gSacAUxH Thank you to our Stellar Pathways partners Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), Indiana Department of Transportation, Indiana State Department of Agriculture, Indiana Destination Development Corporation, Indiana Department of Natural Resources and Indiana Department of Health.

It’s October and time to celebrate National Community Planning Month! The American Planning Association (APA) established National Community Planning Month. APA states, “Planners work to improve the well-being of all people living in our communities by taking a comprehensive perspective. This approach leads to safer, resilient, more equitable, and more prosperous communities. We celebrate the role that planning plays in creating great communities each October with National Community Planning Month.” QK’s expertise in land use and policy planning helps our clients develop common-sense solutions to complex planning problems. Our plans promote efficient and sustainable land development, incorporate development and redevelopment patterns that optimize existing infrastructure investments, and consume less land that can then remain available for agriculture, open space, and natural systems. EARMARKS: We don't know when the Earmarks will be announced, but we know it'll be here before you know it, and then you'll have to move quickly! Get a leg up by watching this webinar from the National Safe and Healthy Housing Coalition, "Using Earmark Funding for Healthy Housing." Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/erwhcHDj. Description: In 2021, Congress resumed funding individual projects at the community level, through Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending (also known as "earmarks"). There have now been two complete cycles of federal appropriations that have included earmarks, and several states and localities have used this funding to support work to improve housing quality and address environmental hazards. In this webinar, a panel of organizations who have applied for or received this funding reflect on their experiences with the process and how their projects will support healthy homes. The webinar also describes how the earmark process works and how to navigate it as an applicant. Presenters: • Ruth Ann Norton, President and CEO, Green & Healthy Homes Initiative, Baltimore, MD. • Jolene Lyon, President and CEO, Bering Straits Regional Housing Authority, Nome, AK. • Lisa Ramsey, Deputy Director, Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, Warren, OH. #Congress #Earmarks #Appropriations #HealthyHomes #HealthyHousing #PublicHealth #EnvironmentalHealth #LeadPoisoning #Asthma #OlderAdults
