(Judah's post, not mine so much lol) Most of you are market/capital market/RE/visionaries/entrepreneurs and we have business oriented relationships and some of you have known me my entire life...we talk about projects, blue ocean business strategy and business plan execution. Often that "available" time is tight due to life, IE aforementioned work and the ever present children/family obligations. Some perspective on my life as a father since 2005: My eldest Mason Glusman turns 19 tomorrow, still learning but also EARNING in the marketing world and trading collectibles and as my middle son Judah Glusman (2007) just took his SAT test while being the Pres of a club focused on foster kids AND launching his LLC last year as a 16 year old (post content). My 10 soon to be 11 year old son (2013 4/4) has a minute, but do not be shocked if he becomes an astronaut lol. Not lol. The scientist kind, not the pilot to be clear and for the record. Yes, while you are becoming a real estate mogul, Wangzhong S., I will be calling on the favor of mentorship one day. However, regardless of where they are now, each of them know there is NO timeline for their plans (but 2 survived financial contagion without even knowing it) and they also know there is NO recipe to life (all 3 survived Covid/remote learning and divorce), obviously NO defined path but the one they are on individually yet together as brothers - the one thing for certain. They are not perfect. They all have PTSD from life, just like I do and anyone reading this does. If you do not think you do, think harder for real on the truth. Being aware of it, dealing with it daily while being happy are all that matter. The rest is just noise. We should all live with this mindset every day. Cut out the NOISE and be your best happy self. I grew up in a family of Gator fans in the wrong Gainesville. Gainesville, Ga, my home town is about 40 minutes from Athens, Dawg country. However, the 90s and 2000s were the best times to be a Gator. I just wrapped up the new Netflix documentary, “Swamp Kings.” Check it out if you’re a fan of college football or even just a deep dive into building, sustaining and the pressures of a winning culture. One of the most powerful vignettes in the whole 4 part documentary was a brief interview with one of the key players on the 2008 National Championship team, Chris Rainey. “I was born in prison, father was in prison 95% of my life…when I was younger, I don’t have nobody to hug or talk to or kiss or nothing” Coach Meyer recounts a story where Rainey points at a picture on his desk of Meyer and his son celebrating his sons birthday and through tears says, “Coach, I don’t know my father and I’ve never celebrated my birthday.” “What do you say? ‘Ok, let’s go talk about football’” I love this. Such great awareness as a coach and leader. You are dealing with whole people. Each with their own stories and life challenges. As a boss or teammate, yes, you have sales goals and company targets, or a tight daily schedule but you’re also working with others that have complex stories. Every teammate has their own. Have you taken the time to get to know them? It may temporarily slow down efficiency, but in the long-run you’ll build a team that trusts you, that know you care, and will run through a wall for you. Our spotlight today is Amy Weinfurter who is a Premium Service Account Manager with the Milwaukee Bucks Inc. 1) As someone whose gotten promoted numerous times at the Bucks, what are some lessons you've learned since beginning your career there? You must put in the work – this sounds obvious, but promotions don’t just happen. I’ve seen a lot of different people come through and the very first things you need are a work ethic and desire to learn/receive constructive criticism. Leaders can work with that. Culture matters – Culture has become a buzzword, but I do feel that it is important. As I mentioned, there can be high turnover in sales and service but one thing that has kept me here are the people. I have 100% confidence that if I needed anything everyone on our leadership team would not hesitate to help me. 2) You've worked for two of the biggest teams in the country, so I'd love to know what some of your favorite memories have been since starting your career in sports? Of course, winning the NBA Championship in 2021 was my favorite – with the team not having won in 50 years and coming out of COVID, it was surreal to see the city come together to support the Bucks. 3) Who have been some of your biggest inspirations and mentors within the sports industry? I’ve been so lucky to work with great leaders within the Bucks. Kristina Filipovic, Senior Director of Ticket Sales and Service, is one that has helped me grow immensely. As another woman in the sports industry who has continued to grow her career, she always has great insights. Kristina also always pushes and challenges me to take the extra step when I need that push. One person outside of the Bucks that I think shaped my outlook on working in sports is Amy Trask. I read her book You Negotiate Like a Girl and it has so many great stories about her career as well as what made her successful. Ultimately Amy cared about people and working her hardest. 4) Where do you feel you've seen the most personal growth since you began your career? I think I’ve seen the most personal growth in my confidence. I’m more on the quiet/soft spoken side and that can feel like a weakness when others around you/the sales stereotype is loud and outgoing. When I started in 2019, one of my managers, Wes Warne, always affirmed for me that my personality is what makes me an asset to the team and that there is no reason I need to change myself to grow in the role. Having support like that makes such a difference and I’ve only grown from there. 5) What is your favorite part of working in sales and service? I love the fact I get to work with so many different people both internally and externally. Sales and service is so intertwined with the rest of the company that internally there are a lot of opportunities to work with our partnership team, marketing, arena operations. I think this gives me a well-rounded idea of how the sports organization runs and how everyone fits together.

"It's not important what people think when you come in, but what they think when you leave" 👇 Full disclosure: I'm a lifelong Liverpool supporter. My grandparents' lived so close to Anfield that before I could go, I knew when Liverpool had scored just from the crowd noise. 30-ish years later, I’m still a regular at games. So I'm definitely biased, but Jürgen Klopp's departure from Liverpool was a model case study in the power of inspirational communication. And it had a business purpose. Traditionally, sports teams struggle after losing such a talismanic leader - and poor performance on the pitch means poor performance off it - but the emotion unleashed by this campaign has built a strong platform for the transition to the new leadership team. Of course, it helped that Jürgen is one of the world's great sporting leaders, who would have excelled in any industry. Yet the incredible planning that went into the internal and external campaign surrounding Klopp's exit is clear to see. His last days at the club included everything from an interview on the club’s YouTube channel, charity meetings, appearances on key fan social media, an open letter to the people of Liverpool in the local newspaper, and the emotion of the final game of the season and all of the ceremony that surrounded it. Every detail meticulously planned; from the fan mail that he opened in one film, to the hoodies that he and his team wore at the final game of the year. If you saw these events, then it was hard to deny that this was the power of inspirational communication at work. 💭 What can communicators learn from this campaign? 🙃 We don't have all have a leader as strong as Jürgen Klopp. 🙃 And we don't all have millions of willing advocates, ready to be persuaded to get behind our cause. 🚀 But what all communicators CAN do is challenge ourselves to think bigger about the goals our companies have to deliver and how we can help to inspire people to get on board. In planning communications, we must go the extra mile on the details and hold ourselves accountable to finding the courage to speak truth to power, so we can deliver better communications programs that help our companies to achieve their goals. 🌟 Do we focus on industry knowledge too much? 🌟 🏈 In case you missed it, Tom Brady has joined Birmingham City!!! The seven-time Super Bowl champion has partnered with the club's holding company, US-based Knighthead Capital Management, and become chairman of a new advisory board. Amazing news for our club and follows the recent success we have seen at Wrexham provided by Ryan Reynolds and friends. But this got me thinking, how applicable is his experience and knowledge to a "Soccer" Championship Football Club here in the UK? Are they transferable to this industry within the sports sector??? This is an argument I have seen take place weekly with clients and candidates in manufacturing, and there is no easy answer. But I would be interested in your thoughts. 🤔 Is specialist industry knowledge the ultimate key to success, or can adaptable expertise open doors across sectors? Just like we see in manufacturing all the time. If the Blues want Tom to come in and teach the team how to be better footballers or come up with new set pieces and formations, I think we are going down the Ted Lasso fantasy route… But Tom Brady clearly hasn't been brought in to do that. ⚽ No, Brady will utilize his vast leadership experience to assist the sports science department in health, nutrition, wellness, and recovery systems. Furthermore, he will collaborate with the Board and the management team to develop global marketing strategies and identify fresh commercial partnerships for the club. He will also have a massive influence on the culture and mentality of the club as one of the most successful sportsmen of all time. Now I am not saying that you should hire Tom Brady to run your manufacturing business, although that would be pretty amazing… However, we are back to that constant discussion: Do you really need someone from a specific industry to do a particular job, or do you need transferable skills and experience from the sector? In my opinion, as long as you have the right managers and team members with the required industry knowledge, senior leaders/advisors, just like Tom Brady, can be hugely successful as long as the expertise is shared and delegated effectively and respectfully where it's required. First off I would like to thank Northern Kentucky University and the speakers who participated for allowing us students to indulge in business week as it is a great way for us to build towards our future. I also want to give a quick reflection on each of the speakers I had the honor of seeing the past couple days. Rebecca Riley, MACC Accounting Manager, FC Cincinnati - The key takeaways from this session were how fun and interesting it really is to work in sports and how you can still get a job in sports even if your first job is not in sports. - The biggest thing I learned from this breakout section was how competitive the sports scene really is. - The thing I enjoyed most about this session was how they left a big window of the presentation open for us students to ask questions. Victor Livisay, Vice President of People and Culture, Cincinnati Reds -The key takeaway from this session was how every single person in the organization plays a huge part in building the culture of the Cincinnati Reds. - The biggest thing I learned from this session was that no matter what field you are in, there is a pretty good chance that you can find your place in the Reds organization. -My favorite part of this session was seeing the passion and drive directly from Mr. Livisay. As a fan of the Reds myself, I and many others appreciate that! The brand, the brand, the brand. The University of Michigan football program is dominating on the gridiron. However, their press headlines suggest it’s time for a new playbook when it comes to hiring. In 2023 alone, three staff members were terminated or resigned after questionable behavior became public, serving as a distraction for the team, while also tarnishing the program's reputation. These setbacks might have been mitigated with the implementation of a robust hiring due diligence process and an insider threat program. In January, the co-offensive coordinator was terminated after it was uncovered that he gained access to computer accounts belonging to other people. In May, the new assistant director of football recruiting resigned after only three days when it was uncovered that he had liked a number of insensitive and racist posts on social media in the past on his public personal Twitter account. In October, a low-level staffer chose to resign before he could be terminated for running an unsanctioned spyring to steal teams’ signals. The analyst's background and social media footprint portrayed him as a fervent superfan, equipped with a manifesto and aspirations of one day leading the team. In an era where the brand is as crucial as the game (business) itself, robust vetting procedures, due diligence, and an insider threat analysis become paramount. Relying on 20th-century processes for hiring and due diligence is no longer enough.
