Rivers, streams, and lakes serve as the lifeblood of our environment, vital for sustaining all life forms. If water is the lifeblood, then the surrounding land is the muscles and bones, shaping and supporting this vital system. A healthy waterway is a sign of a thriving environment, capable of nurturing a diverse range of plant and animal species. It's a delicate balance, where adequate water supply and the rich biological diversity supported by watersheds are the cornerstones of social well-being, ecological harmony, and economic prosperity. Muskoka Watershed Council is a volunteer community organization that champions the stewardship of our water resources and protects the ecosystems that depend on them—striving for a world where water and land work in harmony to sustain life and prosperity. When credible voices like Stuart McDonald expose Responsible Tourism and Sustainable Tourism for what it is, I believe it has much bigger impact, than when we in the travel industry speak about it. It's because travel writers have a bigger audience among travelers who read their content, helping them educate themselves make the right choices and ask the right questions. Only demand can correct supply side issues. Only when consumers demand planet friendly travel and hospitality solutions, can the industry change. We have to admit we are an extractive industry, however much we greenwash ourselves. For all the benefits the industry brings, the negative impacts are equally, if not more grave. So, we have to be cognisant of our impact, positive and negative, before starting a business, and running it. Consumers and regulators have started exposing the greenwashing, with the biggest of them all, being exposed by the UK advertising regulator. My intention is not to shame anyone, but all the events which have just happened is a warning to us all! #greenwashing https://lnkd.in/gfsPvjsa
