Work is ableist. According to the CDC, 61 million adults in the United States have at least one disability, and for nearly half that population, the disability is invisible or at least not apparent. Although the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed in 1990 to protect against discrimination, many employees or job candidates are reluctant or scared to disclose a disability. And it seems many employers are clueless about what they’re doing wrong. So how can we make advocacy easier, open up opportunities, and build a world of work that works for everyone? Ludmila Praslova, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP, Âû, a professor of psychology at Vanguard University of Southern California, recently wrote about how her autism affected her onboarding experience at a new job. In her new book, Praslova delves into the challenges of self-advocacy, disclosing a disability, and what employers need to change to create neuro-inclusive environments. Even more so after becoming a #GirlDad, I’ve noticed many struggles women face that men don’t. One of them is getting paid less for doing the same jobs. Stats show that women earn 79 cents for every dollar men do 📉 But there's more to this than meets the eye. 📚 Quick Take: 👉 This gap isn't just about education or occupation—it's deeply rooted in societal and cultural expectations. 👉 Prof. of Economics at Yale, Mushfiq Mobarak, emphasizes that the burden of family responsibilities and the impact of motherhood significantly influence this disparity. 🧠 Deep Dive: 🤔 In high-paying sectors like law and finance, women are underrepresented in top positions. 🤔 The "motherhood penalty" is real, with earnings disparities evident post-childbirth in multiple countries. 🤔 Societal pressures shape women's career choices, affecting opportunities before they even begin. 🚀 Solution? We have to tackle societal norms, push for shared parental responsibilities, and reevaluate high-paying industry structures. Closing the wage gap involves reshaping societal views on gender roles. #GenderWageGap #Equality #SocietalNorms #parenthood For more, check out https://lnkd.in/gJYP_JJF

Today and every day, let's celebrate the complexity and diversity of motherhood as we honor mothers, let's also acknowledge the societal expectations, gender roles, and patriarchal norms that often constrain and idealize motherhood. Let's recognize that mothers are more than caregivers - they are leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and change-makers. To all the mothers who have been marginalized, silenced, or erased from the narrative - we see you. To those who have been forced into traditional roles, and those who have defied them - we celebrate you. To the mothers who are also activists, artists, and game-changers - we salute you. Let's use this day to challenge the stereotypes and commercialization that often accompany Mother's Day. Instead, let's focus on empowering mothers to pursue their passions, ambitions, and autonomy. To my mother, thank you for showing me that motherhood is not just about nurturing, but also about leading, mentoring, and inspiring. Your strength, resilience, and determination are a testament to the power of women. Here's to mothers who are redefining what it means to care, to lead, and to thrive. May we continue to uplift and support each other, every day. #Motherhood #MothersDay #Empowerment #Autonomy #DiversityInMotherhood #MomLife #FamilyFirst #Appreciation

The daughters of widowed moms are supported at #WEE2023 Widow Empowerment Event in St. Louis this weekend. Their voices are important and needed to change the societal trajectory of underserving and neglecting #widows worldwide. They see how voiceless, invisible, and forgotten their moms are in social support, places of worship, faith based initiatives, governments and their experience of being stigmatized and socially excluded. They want to help change the perception and myths vs. realities by speaking up about how courageous their mothers are every day. They want to comfort their #moms and let them know they are healing, but differently than them. They have asked for a daughters panel at #WEE2024, and we would welcome this idea. Daughters are the next Gen widows, the statistics show this, 7 out of every 10 married women becomes a widow. It’s getting younger (average US age 59) due to #suicide and #addiction deaths. Including them in the solutions for their solo parent moms creates generational impact, higher women’s health and family sufficiency and sustainability. Holistic, whole family support. Generation to generation. Expect to hear more from the daughters at MWC. We are grateful for their courage and strength to be #changemakers from #grief to #growth too. “Moms, don’t be so hard on yourselves, we see how strong you need to be for us. We are doing our part and can be strong together. We are here for you, even when the world is not.” - Emory #resilience #empowerment #girls #women #families #support #mothers #daughters #fatherless #families #futurewidows #generational #healing #solutions #womenshealth #initiative #widowhood #modernwidowsclub #genx #millennials #genz #impact

The role of fathers in shaping the future is often overlooked and underestimated. While the spotlight is often on mothers as the primary caregivers, it's essential to recognize the significant impact single fathers have on their children's lives and society as a whole. Single fathers face unique challenges and responsibilities, from juggling work and parenting to breaking societal stereotypes. They are breaking barriers and redefining traditional gender roles, showing that nurturing, love, and support are not limited to one gender. These men are defying the odds and proving that they are more than capable of providing a stable and nurturing environment for their children. They are not just filling a void left by an absent partner but actively taking on the role of both parents. By doing so, they are teaching their children essential life skills such as resilience, independence, and empathy. Moreover, single fathers are challenging societal norms and expectations, encouraging a more inclusive and diverse perspective on parenting. Their presence breaks the stereotype that fathers are merely providers, highlighting the emotional and nurturing aspect of parenting that knows no gender boundaries. The underestimated power of single fathers extends beyond their immediate families. Their involvement in their children's lives has ripple effects on society, contributing to more balanced, compassionate, and inclusive communities. By actively participating in their children's upbringing, these fathers are shaping the next generation to be open-minded and empathetic individuals. It's time to give credit where credit is due. Let us celebrate and acknowledge the incredible efforts of single fathers in shaping the future. Their dedication, love, and resilience are paving the way for more diverse and inclusive parenting narratives. Together, let's break down stereotypes and support all parents in their journey to create a better future for their children. Have you been inspired by a single father's story? Share your experiences and let's continue to champion the underestimated power of single fathers in shaping the future. #SingleFathers #Parenting #Inclusion

YES. I DO WANT TO. 1. Stop allowing MN State Sponsored Institutionalization of people with disabilities. 2. Actually enforce the Minnesota Olmstead Plan. 3. DO the advocacy work NO OTHER ENTITY is doing - ADA integration MANDATE & Olmstead enforcement & Murphy Settlement Agreement enforcement. 4. ENFORCE OLMSTEAD ! WHY do you allow people with disabilities to be forced into congregate care institutional facilities ? You have 1 job. 1 5. PUSH THE DOJ’S Definition of segregated setting. FIX MN DHS DSD’s view of their facilities as integrated & inclusive: when they are segregated & isolating & exclusive & institutions. There - done. Do you want to share your input on how to improve inclusion, choice, and integration for disabled Minnesotans? Minnesota’s Olmstead Plan is being rewritten. This is a statewide Plan to create more choices, options, and support for people with disabilities to live in the community. Please take our Disability Inclusion and Choice Survey to help shape the priorities of the next Olmstead Plan. The survey is a few questions, available in multiple languages, and open from June 3 through 30. Take the survey: https://bit.ly/45agQSZ
