Enhance Skills through Continuous Learning Resolution: The construction sector is constantly evolving, making continuous learning and skill enhancement essential. Action Step: Dedicate time each month to professional development. Read a set number of industry publications, attend webinars, complete online courses that focus on new construction techniques or advanced project management skills. 4. As I explore new professional avenues, I've been reflecting on the diverse projects that have shaped my professional journey. Among these, one project stands out for its unique challenges and learnings – the construction of a renowned retail store in Boston. This experience was just one of many in my career, but it offered distinct insights and growth opportunities. In this project, I held a dual role. Not only was I the lead for the audio-visual component, but I was also actively involved in the hands-on installation of IT and A/V systems, working closely with our remote tech support team. This multifaceted position brought its unique challenges, especially when faced with the project's significant delays and coordination difficulties among various teams, including electricians, architects, superintendents, plumbers, and carpenters. The complexities of interdependent team tasks led to a chaotic job site and missed deadlines. My role required me to be adaptable and resourceful, especially when dealing with evolving directives and the need for clear communication and structured planning. The project reached a turning point with the arrival of the lead consultant and general contractor. Their leadership and strategic problem-solving significantly improved the situation. This experience underscored the importance of effective leadership in managing stress and bringing clarity to complex situations. From this project, I gained invaluable insights into the power of adaptability, clear communication, and strategic thinking in a hands-on leadership role. It also highlighted the significance of teamwork and collaboration, especially when coordinating with remote teams. Despite the initial challenges, we completed the project through collaborative efforts and strategic redirection. This stands as a testament to our team's resilience and ability to overcome adversity, marking a significant achievement in my career. Each project I've been part of has contributed to my professional growth, with this one offering a profound understanding of the nuances of project management and teamwork in dynamic environments.

Engineering Recruitment Consultant | Unearthing engineering talent and linking them to their dream career, team and leader.
At Rarekind our Engineering team is noticing a shift. There is a surge of Engineering contract roles. This trend got me thinking about the many perks that come with being a contractor ⬇ 🚴♂️ Flexibility: Contractors enjoy a heightened level of control over their work schedules, granting them the freedom to tailor their work-life balance to their preferences. 🔆 Variety of Work: One of the most appealing aspects of contracting is the diversity of projects it offers. Helping to keep work engaging and fosters the continuous development of valuable skills. ✈ Higher Earnings: Traditionally, contractors command higher rates than their full-time counterparts, providing them with the potential to boost their income. 💥 Networking: Perhaps my favourite benefit, contract work provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with a diverse range of clients and industry professionals. This extensive network can open doors to exciting prospects and invaluable connections. 👨💻 Skills Development: With different clients and a wide array of projects, contractors are constantly exposed to new challenges. Perfect for ground for skill enhancement and upskilling. While contract work may not align with everyone's preferred work model, it's essential to recognise that it's far from a bleak choice. Instead, it brims with abundant opportunities waiting to be seized. Building buzz for the construction industry 🛠| ConTech | Subcontractors | GCs | Careers in Construction | Skilled Trades
Commercial construction companies last year, like the year before said one of their biggest challenges was finding employees. A little side note: One of my absolute favorite parts of my job at Billd is that every week my team has our weekly meeting, and the majority of the time is spent doing an IDS (Identify, Discuss, and Solve) session. I firmly believe that if commercial construction companies did this every month, they WOULD actually solve their hiring issues. Here's what that would look like: First - What is the problem? ("Hiring employees.") Second - What are we currently doing to hire employees? (Everyone taking part in the meeting would list their answers prior to the meeting) Third - What can we test and implement this month or quarter to fix our hiring issues? This is where you all discuss different ideas, the level of difficulty to implement, the cost to implement, and the level of impact the idea will have. For example: -Update our website with more employee testimonials [easy to implement, low cost, low impact] -Start producing more social media content [med difficulty, low cost, med-high impact] -Create more enticing job descriptions, and build frameworks for future job descriptions [low difficulty, low cost, high impact] -Launch paid ads strategy to attract workers [high difficulty, med-high cost, high impact] Next, you can go through and decide what makes the most sense for your company to tackle, and then delegate who will be in charge of executing specific actions. NOT everything is going to work. Some things might work in the short-term, but not in the long term. That's why you continue to IDS. Eventually, you will solve the issue. (I want to be clear in my opinions - I don't think every company in the construction industry has a problem hiring new workers, but the ones that do have a problem, can't expect anything different to happen if they don't change what they've been doing.) 👷🏻 _________________________ 🤔Want to talk about construction? Engineers want to know what their future in the business could look like. You probably already know these are what engineers want. But this is what the engineers I’m working with are prioritising.
