It's been almost 3 years since I landed myself as a Solution Engineer/Consultant, and I have been multifunctional in listening to customer pain points, comprehending the company's ecosystem to meet customer needs, tailoring demos, and articulating the value of the product while addressing their pain points.
Being part of this team entails being in a race to win deals, and it was indeed not easy to say no to clients when we were unable to offer what they were looking for (obviously, your commissions are hit 😅 ), but I used to go back to work and see if we had any workarounds or bring it to the Product Manager's attention.
Seeking the attention of the PMs was indeed a huge task. "Why do we not have this feature released yet? Where is the product heading? What are we prioritizing?" were the simple questions I asked myself that intrigued me to understand what a PM does. I did interact with a lot of PMs over time and learned how they are a binding force across all domains and what different data points they look into to shape a product, motivating me to become a PM one day.
As a first step, I joined Accredians-XLRI in the Executive Product Management program, and I did get a wonderful chance to witness the scintillating insights of great PMs/lecturers. I am indeed happy with the last 6 months and how it helped me understand who a PM is, covering topics including market research, competitor analysis, product ideation, product designing, prototyping techniques, UI/UX, product marketing, and analytics. Boy, this journey has taught me a lot.
As fancy as it might sound, I am glad that this journey has taught me the nuances of Product Management and the data points to look into while launching and managing a product.
I thank all my professors and fellow mates with me on this journey, and this would not have been possible if it weren't for you guys.
