Summer internships are now in full swing 😎 My husband and I are both lucky to have interns join us for the summer at our respective workplaces. We've talked extensively about the energy, excitement, and creativity our interns have... it's amazing to witness.
If you are currently interning somewhere, or you have an intern on your team, here are 5 things I encourage you to do (or to encourage your intern to consider doing):
1. Set goals for yourself. Work with your manager or supervisor to brainstorm some ways to measure your growth and development over the summer. It's also a great way to build tangible experience for your resume!
2. Make connections with as many people in the org as you can. Work with a manager, supervisor, or teammate to figure out people you can connect with. Better yet, set aside time with these folks to learn more about their backgrounds and roles.
3. Keep a daily or weekly log to track your tasks and accomplishments. It can be brief! Track it in a notebook, planner, or note on your phone. You'll be amazed how much progress you'll make during your internship.
4. "Find the problem." If you spot an opportunity for improvement, voice it. Constructive feedback is invaluable, and offering solutions can make a valuable impact.
5. Have fun! Enjoy yourself, enjoy the experience, and make the most out of your internship 😄
