❌ “You don’t want to seem too desperate.” ❌ Please stop saying this to people who are job searching. 🔆 Whether it be the green banner, LinkedIn messages, emails, networking multiple hours a day… Or anything of the like, job seekers are busting their tails to do what it takes to provide for themselves and their families. 🔆 People have to pay bills. They have to eat. There are basic life necessities that cannot be had without a salary. 🔆 So, yes, you could say in a way, that people are “desperate” to make things happen. They are “desperate” to ensure the well-being of themselves and their families. 🔆 Put yourself in another’s shoes before being so quick to judge or look down on someone’s attempts to help themselves. ❤️ To all of you who have been affected by layoffs, family matters, life transitions, etc. and are trying your darnedest to land a role you want and/or need— ❤️ I see you. I see your strength. I see your perseverance. I see you pick yourself up again and again after being “denied” countless times. I see you fight through the feelings that you must be doing something wrong or aren’t good enough. I see you hope and pray for just one person to give you a chance, while you still push forward and do what needs to be done… I see you and I respect you. You are doing an amazing job. Keep going. WE will make it.

One of my clients got laid off unexpectedly from his full-time job. He was a C-level executive: - Held a high-ranking role - Received multiple promotions - Worked in that company for 5+ years. The irony? He'd led layoffs just a month prior. Losing a job you've poured your heart into? It's a punch to the gut. It's devastating. → A harsh reminder that job security is an illusion No matter how stable things seem. Ghosts haunt us. We are all the product of our past experiences, including the old traumas that rattle around in our heads… 👻Bullying 👻Bad parenting 👻Uncaring layoffs 👻Promotions denied 👻Jobs that were lost 👻Unfair disadvantages 👻Inadequate education 👻Friends who moved on 👻Colleagues who betrayed us 👻People who broke our hearts 👻Adverse childhood experiences 👻Opportunities that disappeared 👻Failures that made us feel inadequate 👻Abusive bosses stuck in their own mess 👻Toxic workplaces where no one spoke up 👻Partners who dumped their baggage on us 👻Rejections that scream, “You’re not good enough!” The ghosts of these negative things linger. And when they keep us from showing up as the best version of ourselves today, our highest potential goes unrealized. Dreams and goals up in smoke. Poof! If this feels true for you, ask yourself: ❓How are the ghosts serving you? ❓Are they helping you, or harming you? Most of you will find that the ghosts are spectral squatters… they’re living in your valuable head space rent free. If this resonates please don’t wait, invest in yourself as soon as possible. Find a great coach, therapist, or maybe both. Yes they need to be an empathetic listener, but they also need to be able to help you work through the old stuff and create an actionable roadmap for REAL change. Stop the haunting. "Flying used to be fun until I started doing it for a living" I don't think any line in film history has stuck with me quite like this quote from Kiki's Delivery Service. There is such a simple, immovable truth to it. I don't like to complain about the path I've taken in life. It's gonna get me where I want to go eventually and I'm blessed both by luck and hard work to have the skill set I do. But we would all be foolish to ignore the realities of creating art for a living. The pressure can be seemingly endless. You are doing a job that millions of people fantasize about doing. But that also means that if you are not among the very best in the world at what you do, the list of replacements is long. Especially now with mass layoffs hitting the industry it's so easy to feel replaceable. it's so easy to live in daily fear that the moment you stop producing the machine will eat you whole. I don't really have an answer. I just know that I cannot be the only person in my network of creative bold weirdos feeling this way. So, love yourselves. remember that you are a human being who creates art, not an art production machine. People are more understanding than your worst insecurities think they are. Especially the people who love you. Reach out and be vulnerable with the people you trust. Sharing this anxiety can only lessen it. We are all in this together and whether we know each other or not, my dms are always open.

🗓 In the past month, I have had the chance to speak with three professionals during my open office hours that had either been affected by recent layoffs or were looking to break into a new job. Here is the common factor among them: ⭐ They are all freaking awesome, dedicated, and passionate human beings and above all, committed to making it to the finish line. ⭐ The one lesson I have learned: 👥 Most people seem to be struggling with the same thing, that is, either a lack of a stronger support system or dealing with rejection. The best outcome from our conversations: 🤲 Renewing our sense of self-confidence, self-value, and regaining the trust that we had in ourselves by understanding that we are not alone in this journey and that there are those who want to see us succeed and tackle the challenges on the road. 🤟 You all got this! Please take a moment to reclaim yourself and believe in yourself again!

Before owning my own business, I was laid off a few times. There's a feeling that the floor was taken from under our feet and that we're unworthy. I remember my dad's words when I was let go for the first time. It was my first (and dream) job, and I would spend more time at work than at home for two years. The news came after a big celebration, where my work had been widely recognized. I was 21 years old, confused and devastated. His words still resonate with me: - Growth is not linear - He told me to identify my talents, the stuff I knew I was really good at. And then not let anyone or any company's decision make me question that - To look inwards. To identify what could have been done better and actively work on it - A job is just a job. It’s a small piece of the immense universe that represents who we are. We might need to make things work for a while. We might need to find unusual ways to get by, and that’s ok - Then he repeated: Growth is not linear Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been shaken by the big waves of layoffs across industries. Watching talented professionals, whom I deeply admire, struggle while not knowing what the future holds pains me. You're Not Alone: Navigating the Emotional Landscape of Job Loss and Finding Your Way Forward. In light of the growing number of layoffs recently reported on LinkedIn, I can't help but feel deeply for those impacted. We've all been through tough times, and while that doesn't make your situation any easier, I hope you find comfort knowing you're not alone. Navigating job loss is emotionally draining and receiving rejections while job hunting can start a vicious cycle. But remember, you're not just a statistic; you're a capable individual with much to offer. If you're shouldering the financial burden for your family, I understand the weight of that responsibility, having been there myself. Use that as your fuel, not your fear. It's easy to feel overwhelmed with conflicting advice, especially when you're at your wits' end. Laying people off at the end of the year is awful! 👎🏻 The impact spreads beyond the individual and impacts their significant others and their families. If they have children, bettter believe they feel it too! Last year we faced this doom. Made what was supposed to be a jolly time a little challenging. We are still feeling the impact as getting a new job is harder than anticipated! 😩 If you were impacted this year (or last), lean in to your support network. Allow yourself to feel all the emotions. Let people know when you need help. If your partner was impacted, your feelings are valid too! I get it, the pressure is high and the money conversations are no fun. Give yourselves time to process it all. Be patient with yourself. Give yourself grace. And it is always ok to say, “I would rather not talk about this right now.” Know someone impacted? Write them a recommendation. Share job leads. Check in on them. Have the capacity to help out? Go for it! (*I have an amazing friend who offered to get some gifts for my kids. We declined, but the gesture was very touching.) Avoid toxic positivity. Although well intentioned, it sucks to hear… you will be better off look at it as a blessing in disguise when a door closes, another opens you will have a new job soon (unless you are hiring, you don’t know that!) Losing an income source (insurance, retirement savings, etc) without choice is never easy and despite how bad things might (or might not) have been, it doesn’t ease the impact. Regardless of why it happened, it is hard! This time of year can be laden with stress, please keep an extra eye out for those impacted by layoffs. If you are feeling the stress, reach out to someone.
