While endoscopic bariatric procedures, particularly intragastric balloons, have shown significant benefits beyond weight loss, further research is necessary to understand these effects and their applicability to other procedures. 📚 Exciting news! Our latest research article, titled "Does one-anastomosis gastric bypass provide better outcomes than sleeve gastrectomy in patients with BMI greater than 50? A systematic review and meta-analysis", has just been published in the International Journal of Surgery (IF=13.4)! In this study, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing OAGB and SG in super-obese patients. We found that OAGB achieved a higher percentage of total weight loss at both short-term and mid-term follow-ups. However, there were no major differences in perioperative outcomes, complications, or diabetes remission between the two procedures. I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to my supervisors, Dr. Ali Aminian, Majid Valizadeh, and Maryam Barzin, MD, Ph.D for their unwavering support and guidance throughout this research journey. A big thank you to my colleagues for their valuable input and collaboration. More insight into IONM in cardiac procedures.
An increasing number of hospitals — including here at Stanford Health Care — are using intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) to monitor changes to the nervous system during surgery. IONM can allow surgeons to intervene in time in case a stroke or other neurologic injury occurs during an operation. But is reimbursing IONM worth it for health insurers? In collaboration with UPMC, Boston University School of Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine, and Duke University, we assessed the cost-benefit of utilizing IONM during cardiac surgery in the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases. The answer: for high-risk patients, IONM may turn out to be cost-beneficial. Let me know your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/eWsxfuJS
