F1 has made its presence in Singapore for the last 15 years since its inaugural race in 2008. The event came to a conclusion yesterday, putting Carlos Sainz Jr. in the spotlight. Sainz’s victory, the second of his career, was hard-fought and well-deserved. For the last 15 years in September, a kind of festive mood pervades (it is a very different euphoria) - at least in some parts of Singapore; you will see more foreigners, pop up booths selling F1 merchandise, F1 promotional events, road closures, road diversions and traffic jams… You will know what I mean if you are working in the CBD of Singapore. Nonetheless, the Singapore Grand Prix has become one of the most anticipated events in Singapore and has undoubtedly been a boon to the country in several ways. For me and I am sure, for the majority of Singaporeans, F1 is not something we grew up watching. I was more the local boy with a kampung spirit, watching and playing soccer, sepak-takraw, table tennis and of course catching fishes in the ponds. These had a pleasure of their own - the good old days. So The Singapore Grand Prix was an event I could not really relate to. Explains why I have not been to one in the last 15 years despite the many exciting stories that I have heard from those who have attended the event. If the Singapore Grand Prix continues in Singapore maybe perhaps, I should, just for the experience, provided the tickets are affordable, as I do not want to spend a bomb just smelling the burn of tyres. https://lnkd.in/gHpF-sTK #f1 #singapore

2 major issues with this calendar: - 24 races is way too many. There should be a maximum of 20. The teams and their employees are barely seeing their families. - The logistics are still a nightmare. It's better than this year, but still too all over the place. If F1 want to go carbon neutral in 2030, the calender has to make more sense. You can't go from Monaco to Canada, to then come back to Spain. Also, still not a fan of racing in countries that disregard basic human rights, especially if you still run the 'We Race As One' campaign. No word from the organizers about the issues in the countries that they race in. And still no races in Africa. Morocco, South Africa and many others have good infrastructure to organize. And only one race in South America. A World Championship should race all over the world. Hopefully this will improve in the coming years.
Formula 1 has announced the calendar for the 2024 FIA Formula One World Championship, approved by the World Motor Sport Council. The calendar features 24 races and begins in Bahrain on March 2 and finishes in Abu Dhabi on December 8. Formula 1 has made clear its intention to move towards greater calendar regionalisation, reducing logistical burdens and making the season more sustainable. By moving Japan to April, Azerbaijan to September and Qatar back-to-back with Abu Dhabi, this calendar creates a better flow of races in certain regions, and this work will continue while being realistic to the fact that as a world championship, with climatic and contractual constraints, there will always be travel required that cannot be completely regionalised. For the opening two races of the season in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, the Grand Prix will take place on a Saturday. This decision has been taken to accommodate Ramadan.
