I took a step back from focusing solely on black men in my professional endeavors. However, let me make it clear that I am still a passionate advocate for their well-being. In my heart, I truly believe that black men are the leaders and pillars of our community. Without a solid foundation and proper structure, our culture will always be in disarray. You don't have to share my perspective, but it's undeniably crucial for black men to remove their masks and embrace their rightful place in society. Far too many black men lack peace and struggle to find their way in a world that doesn't always have their best interests at heart. It's time for a change! That's why I initiated this project. I want to provide a platform for black men to openly discuss what it means to find peace and be their authentic selves, if that's even possible in today's society. Rather than sticking to predefined topics, I want the conversations to flow naturally and freely. It's vital for people to witness these discussions because it's not only about inspiring other black men. It's also about educating society on how to view and respect black men when they are true to themselves. If you're interested in being a guest on this platform, please reach out to my team at info@latonyamechelle.com. Tell us why you would be an excellent guest and kindly attach two professional-looking pictures of yourself. Let's spread the message that #blackmenmatter. Let's encourage them to speak up and share their stories because they have something valuable to say. It's time to empower them and foster a greater appreciation for their presence and perspectives. Join me in this movement. #lethimtalk #hehassomethingtosay #Blackman #blackmen - The LoveChologist - Join my mailing list at latonyamechelle.com

Wow Black History Month and Reggae Month in one - cultural and history overload! Many people ask why we have to celebrate black history. Quick answer - because no one else is and everyone needs to have their story told. It's the same thing with reggae. I come from a small nation that punches way above its weight and a lot of our punch comes from our music. This month I want to stretch my thinking and learn some lessons from popular reggae songs and some history. I am not sure that I have a whole month in me but let's see how far we go....... Day One! No Woman nuh Cry by Reggae Legend the late Robert Nesta Marley. At long last we are paying attention to mental wellness. According to the National Library of Medicine "It is increasingly being recognized that the mental health of employees is a crucial determinant in their overall health and that poor mental health and stressors at the workplace can be a contributory factor to a range of physical illnesses like hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular conditions, amongst others. In addition, poor mental health can also lead to burn-out amongst employees, seriously affecting their ability to contribute meaningfully in both their personal and professional lives". So how is mental wellness at your workplace? Are the women (and men) crying out for help? Do you have facilities in place to support them? Do they know about these resources? Can they use them without being shamed? Do your leaders know how to recognise when people are crying out for help? Where do you score on this list and what do you need to do?

Ortega-Williams, A. (2024). Healing Black Futures: Black Youth Organizing to Redefine Destiny. Journal of Progressive Human Services, 1-18. ABSTRACT: Black youth throughout American history have resisted racism and the social injustice it produces. Strategies have historically included rebellion, advocacy, and social protest as well as the construction of mutual aid societies. Black youth have been central to the development of Black counter-institutions preserving their heritage and collective strengths. While contemporary organizing frameworks recognize the need for personal and “collective self” care to sustain social action, there is little research on the meaning of ancestral historical resistance or the cultural and spiritual mechanisms Black youth incorporate. In this article, findings from interviews with 20 Black youth organizing in New York City will be presented; highlighting what they described as discovering their calling and channeling liberation for a healed Black future. Implications for Black youth-led community organizing in the context of historical trauma and systemic violence through social action will be explored. The study is situated in the literature examining organizing among Black youth in the context of historical trauma.
