#IntimatePartnerViolence #DomestivViolenceAwareness #ContentWarning DV, Gun violence, discussion about abuse Too often people involved with someone abusive to them have a more common space where they experience abuse. Either with friends and/or family, more often it's coming out, even academic and/or workplace settings. The familiarity with a partner's abusive behavior becomes common and too often the abused person (people) adapt to the behavior. Adapting, too often, is necessary at an early age. At times, when addressing the behavior can result in additional harm. Learning when and how to address harmful behaviors becomes a survival skill. This fact regarding gun violence speaks to the minimization of danger that abused people must live with everyday. It also points out that culturally, the US also minimizes the danger, and acts with no urgency in response to people that harm their partners and loved ones. #Gunviolence #Massshootings #Educationalpost
There is an undeniable link between mass shootings and domestic violence. Over two-thirds (68%) of mass shootings in the U.S. between 2014 and 2019 were either domestic violence attacks or perpetrated by someone with a history of domestic violence. To protect survivors and our communities, we must ensure abusers don’t have access to firearms. 📣TOMORROW: SJA will join hundreds of survivors, domestic violence and gun prevention advocates for a rally in front of #SCOTUS, as the court hears oral arguments in United States v. Rahimi. This case could eliminate one of the few protections available for survivors by allowing abusers subject to protection orders to access firearms. We cannot allow the court to undermine the safety of survivors and their families. Join us, #BradyBuzz, #Everytown, #FuturesWithoutViolence, #Giffords_Org, #MomsDemand, #NNEDV and #StudentsDemand as they call on the court to Disarm Abusers and #ProtectSurvivors.
