As I retire from PwC this week, I am filled with gratitude, and celebrating our other retiring partners as we embark on this bold adventure together! This is a truly outstanding group of people. This past year has been a time of celebration for many of us as we reconnect with old friends and look forward to the future. It’s also been a time of reflection for me... The year was 1986. Fresh off a short trip down I-75 with an accounting degree from the University of Florida, without any student loan debt (I still thank my parents for that), I first walked through the door of what was then First Florida Tower as an intern in the audit practice of PwC (then, Price Waterhouse). Cristening a new career in public accounting was like the Super Bowl for me. The view was pretty great from the 28th Floor. Almost all of my previous gigs at other places were outdoors, and while I loved that phase of my life, this was my shot at a career in business. My wandering mind filled up with thoughts about prior experiences like rolling Har-Tru tennis courts in the beamng sun - or stacking concrete blocks and mortar mix in the commercial yard between my runs to construction sites as the driver of a 41 ton fully loaded cement mixer - or lifeguarding on Siesta Beach in Sarasota. How was I really ready to be a CPA? Little did I know at the time just how much these “character building” experiences would prepare me for what I was about to do. Can anyone relate? I’ll bet more than a few of you do. Almost 38 years and millions of miles later, I reflect on my career as I leave the hallowed halls of our PwC Washington, D.C. office for the last time. This journey has taken me to so many places, brought me into so many lives, and afforded me incredible experiences which I was incapable of imagining all those years ago. My passport is filled with stamps and visas from countries all over the world, but the lasting impressions of the people I’ve met and worked with will be indelibly stamped in my memory just like the ink on the pages of those passports. Whatever the next chapter brings, today I’m truly fortunate to carry with me the memories of those experiences with so many great clients and great people whose paths have crossed with mine. Two words – THANK YOU! Putting a positive punctuation mark on this epic chapter would not have been possible without God’s grace and the support of my beautiful, loving family along the way. And my PwC family. 🙏 👏 These years went by in a flash. The days were long, and the years were short. I try to keep reminding myself, as the song goes – “don’t blink” – even when times are tough, and especially when they’re great. You do not want to miss your own future by overlooking the beauty in the present. There is always too much life to live, no matter how much of it we have left. Let’s go!! #PwC #PwCproud #BusinessGators

2wScott- when Vin Colman told me that you were a prime candidate to replace my good friend Robert Keehan as DC Metro Region Assurance Leader Robert as he was needed to manage other issues in the firm, I thought, “Who Is This Stranger”? I can say now what everyone else knows- you’re never a stranger to those who need guidance and support. While the firm is losing a great talent, the community is gaining someone who will contribute greatly to society. As for Vin being right in suggesting you, well… “even a broken clock” they say… naw… Vin Colman was a great partner and boss- I just wanted to have a little fun for old times sake with the both of ya! To Scott Adams- A Big Guy with a small ego and a Giant Heart for Clients and the People!
