With longer life spans, the likelihood you'll need some type of long-term care is significant. Not to mention state-specific requirements in place in certain states...with more expected to follow suit.
I’ve stayed quiet about this for years because I accepted this was just one downside to diabetes that I was strong enough to get through. But I recently had one of the worst experiences at an airport and I want to bring awareness to something we don’t talk about. If you choose to wear an insulin pump to manage your diabetes, you’re walking around with a device that probably costs $5,000, required fighting the resistance of your insurance company to get, and is NOT cleared to go through body scanners in airports. So what do you do? Spend money on TSA pre-check in hopes for a smooth experience? Don’t take your life saving device with you? Try to go through anyway causing the detectors to go off and possibly damaging your pump? Or do what I do- alert the TSA agent as soon as you get to security and risk being treated as though you are a criminal? I’m going to bite the bullet and get TSA pre-check because I end up in tears more often than not. I love my life with diabetes, what I’ve been able to do with it, and most of the time I let inconvenient moments roll off my shoulders. But when I feel that someone’s been irresponsible in how they’re treating me when they’re in a position of power, I believe there’s a learning opportunity and I will speak up. Here’s to learning! I find all of this extremely concerning. These are the average figures, those for operational staff are even worse. How can providers ever expect a good outcome from an inspection with this level of disillusion amongst CQC staff. The results also highlight: Only 52% feel clear about what they are expected to achieve in their role (implying 48 % aren’t sure what is even expected of them); and only 31% feel it easy for them to find the information needed to carry out their role. How can we achieve a fair outcome on this basis?
