We asked Gabe Puckett what skill developed during his teaching career has helped him most in his role as UX Designer at Silicon Mountain. Here's what he had to say: "As a former Prek and chess teacher, it was critical for me to be able to break things down into their simplest form and communicate it to my students concisely. This skill impacts my work as a UX designer every day. I need to be able to communicate instructions or processes easily and intuitively to the user. My concise UX writing with clear promptings has been hugely impacted by my seven years in the classroom. As my education coach once told me, 'If you can explain something to a four-year-old, you can explain it to anyone.'" #TeacherAppreciationWeek2024 #SiliconMountain

I've been working with a lot of aspiring UX/Product Designers lately (shout out to my Cognitive Science students!) and there's something I must break down... UX Design boot camps won't: 🚫 Get you a job. 🚫 Make it easier for you to secure a job b/c of a certification. 🚫 Teach you everything you'll need to know as a designer. UX Design boot camps will: ✅ Get you started with designing. ✅ Provide you structure, mentorship, and learning content. ✅ Help you create a portfolio. Do I believe boot camps can help you pivot to design? -Yes Do I believe that you need to be in a boot camp to become a designer? -No. So should you do a boot camp? -Trick question, this is up to you! Do your research so you can make the best and data-informed decision for you. Are you a #UXDesigner or #ProductDesigner and can share some advice? The most interesting aspect of this course for me was delving into the empathize, define, and ideate process. Understanding how to empathize with users, define problems effectively, and then engage in creative ideation was enlightening. Learning about the various tools and techniques used in each phase opened up new perspectives on user-centered design.

Cam Pham, MA, CPRW Great advice! 🙌🏻 I agree with all of this. As a UX Designer who's coached dozens of aspiring designers enrolled in UX boot camps in hopes to get their foot in the door, here are a few helpful tips: 👉 Work on real products and with real people • Recruiters/Hiring Managers want to hire someone who can collaborate effectively with their team and produce results that meet both business and user needs, so reach out to local businesses and propose redesigning their website/app 👉 Decide what your goal industry is and design products related to this industry • When applying/interviewing, having case studies that show you have experience in a company's industry can help you stand out as someone who can make an immediate impact 👉 Try free/lower budget courses, join free design communities & network • There are tons of free/very affordable courses that can give you the knowledge to get you started—try one out if you're starting from scratch. Join a free design community on Discord or Slack and NETWORK with UX professionals (information interviews, in-person/virtual design networking events. etc.) These are just a few tips, but know that you definitely do not need to take a UX boot camp. You got this! 💪🏻

🤸🏽♂️Super excited to complete another design certification. I totally enjoyed this course. I love Ux because of the brain work and human psychology associated with it so taking this course as a refresher and to tighten the gaps in my knowledge was a no-brainer. 👩🏾💻Whether building AI solutions or web and apps, UX is a critical part of any product process for any industry or product that wants to continue to scale company goals because 99.9% of the time company goals are met when user goals are met. ❤️ I totally loved the module on usability testing that showed with proof how watching analytics/data & speaking to users can help make small switches in a design and make a company millions of dollars. ☎️ Hello to the people who only see product design and UI/UX design as just pretty stuff and nice drawings, you have called the wrong room😂 😊 In conclusion, It’s always going to be Eat-Sleep-Learn-Design-Test-Repeat at this end of the room. Research driven designs and decisions backed by speaking to our users are what puts more money in your company’s pockets. I know you want that and that’s a good reason to hire product designers that do quality Ux👩🏾💻. You already know one and that one is me ☝🏾🤝🏾. #uxdesign #uxresearch #uxdesigner

Graduated from university yesterday just for me to be back in a classroom again🤣🤣 I guess the learning truly never stops! Thank you to Aya Ataya and Joe Allan for teaching today. I could see the passion and craft you both have in UX which you’ve been able to use to help others getting into the industry. Thank you again :) UX Design intro day from BrainStation, TWAS WONDERFUL. Had much deeper insight into UX design, really having the definition of “user experience” instilled into me. It’s about the user rather than our natural way of doing things. Ux puts the user at the heart of it all which is really humbling🙇🏾♂️. Not only did I gain skills but reflected on my own character, how being selfless is a must to cater to the users experience😀. Learning how to apply the design thinking framework from the empathy side to prototype and testing😮💨 Had an opportunity to conduct some user research with an interview experience, being able to define the users issue. After defining the issue, sketching wireframes and using Figma to design 👨🏾💻. Today was very challenging, putting myself in a new space with no experience in UX. But I’ve come out of the intro day with a greater zeal🫡🫡. Figma is about to be my closest friend🤣. UX Day @ #brainstation 🎯🎯🎯 #uxdesign #figma #brainstation #uxrole #design #userexperience

Thrilled to announce the completion of my latest UX design case study! 🚀⭐️ In this project, I utilised the design thinking process to create a cutting-edge physical product "Work Fusion Table". The journey was filled with challenges, but the end result is something I'm incredibly proud of. Special thanks to my mentor, Anudeep Ayyagari (UX Anudeep) for his constant support and invaluable guidance throughout this journey. His mentorship was crucial in navigating the complexities of the project. This experience taught me the entire Design Thinking Process (DTP) through a hands-on, non-textbook approach, leading to several key learnings: 1. I am not the user—staying unbiased is essential. 2. Perfectionism can be a hindrance; focusing on solving problems is more important than beautifying the product. 3. Gathering feedback and iterating based on it can significantly broaden the product's appeal and effectiveness. Every step required me to learn and unlearn, resulting in numerous insights. I'm deeply grateful for the supportive community (GrowthSchool ) and the mentorship I received. A big thank you to my UX peers Jahnavi Miriyala Anjaly Vivek Hareendran Sumanjali Gorental Arpita Verma who spent long hours on calls, gossiping and helping me stay on the right track. Dive into the full case study to see how we addressed real-world issues and designed a user-centered solution. I’d love to hear your feedback and thoughts! #UXDesign #DesignThinking #CaseStudy #ProductDesign #Innovation #Mentorship #UserExperience #DesignProcess #PhysicalProduct #LearningJourney #CommunitySupport #Gratitude #UXAnudeep

I help businesses validate products and understand users. | UX Research and Strategy Lead @ NetCompany | Speaker & Mentor 🚀
The best design lesson you’ll receive today From someone who’s been studying design since 2008. So much generic content out there, but here’s a real tip: → Start with the basics, master theory → Understand problem-solving methodology → Find top creators for a study plan based on high-value content → Understand your reasons to be in design (Money is not a strong driver) Designers are lost, not knowing where to begin In a sea of terrible content So, in a world where everyone wants to take. I want to Give. I want to help designers become the master of your life. And for this, you will need: → Full dedication → A clear Plan → A process Design is problem solving, not wireframe building Learn to solve problems And building solutions will be a lot easier Build real value in people’s lives What are your biggest pains as a designer? #productdesign #uxui #digitalexperience #usercentereddesign #userexperience #uxdesign #uidesign #mentor #careerchange #careertransformation #careerdevelopment #juniordesigner — 🚀 Talks about Psychology in UX & Theory of Design. 🌟 On a mission to make design education accessible.
