Continuing with our spotlights for Careers in Construction Month… Next up is our Equipment Division Coordinator, John Seymour. What was your first job in the construction industry? I got a job as an over-the-road driver, eventually decided it wasn’t for me, and got a job as a dump truck driver hauling dirt and stone. What led you to decide to enter the construction industry? I always enjoyed driving big trucks and being around heavy equipment. It was very intriguing to me. What is your favorite thing about your current job? The diversity of the different types of work we do. I get to see and learn so many various aspects of the projects. What advice would you give someone wanting to enter the construction industry? Be patient. Construction is no different than any other career. You have to start at the bottom and work your way up. Take your time to listen and learn as much as you work. What is your least favorite thing about your current job? Finding and keeping quality employees. As time passes by, it gets harder and harder to teach someone a new trade because no one wants to dedicate time to pay attention to the task. #rubycollins #generalcontractors #rubycollinsgeneralcontractors #smyrna #georgia #careersinconstruction #letsbuildsomethinggreat #utilitiescontractor

East Coast offers our employees incentives such as our Referral Program, which allows any current employee who recommends East Coast to new customers to get a percentage of the project! We offer incentives such as this to keep our teams motivated AND to allow them to have a bigger role in our processes! #workplaceculture #referralmarketing #homeimprovement #gaf #roofing

Sitting at the corner of Barstow's main arterial corridor and interstate I-15 places this project not only at a geographical axis, but also a complicated governance one (municipality and a state agency). Having a team who could support ownership in successfully negotiating this relationship was paramount. Go Team!! #barstow #CalTrans #Construction #project #projectmanagement #entitlement

Get to know the staff at Augspurger Komm Engineering who keep the business running smoothly so that our engineers can focus on finding the answers for “when you need to know why.” First up, we are highlighting Joni for her unique, multifaceted role and responsibilities with the firm. Q: What is your role at AKE? A: I’ve been the Office Manager for about 4 years and that entails performing clerical, accounting, and general office duties as needed; facilitating communication; maintaining our company’s calendars; organizing company events; and coordinating travel arrangements. Additionally, I am the company’s Notary Public and Custodian of Records for all incoming file materials that are received for our engineers. I log and organize their job files, review, finalize, and send out reports. Q: What do you enjoy most about what you do? A: Working with our AKE Team – a fun group with exceptional smarts, who are always here to assist and get things done. Q: What is one interesting/random thing you’ve learned working here? A: A water heater is NOT called a “hot” water heater – it is just a water heater. Q: What has surprised you most about working here? A: The diversity and knowledge among all the engineers here. Q: What is something you find to be unique about working with a group of engineers? A: To me, all of the AKE engineers are unique in their own special way – what surprised me the most is their sense of humor and wittiness! These engineers are a team that can and will work together - no one is singled out - and always willing to assist another engineer to get the job done. Our office team has it all: camaraderie, kindness, cooperation, and respect. Q: Tell us a surprising or fun fact about yourself. A: I love, adopt, and rescue feral cats, and I am an avid supporter of many animal charities. #staffspotlight #meettheteam #officemanager

🤩 Our plan is WORKING and Teesside is on the up! 💪 Jobs are vital to tackling inequality and deprivation. If we want our area to succeed we need to do it with investment and jobs for local people 🤝 … and that’s exactly what we’re doing. Unemployment in Redcar and Cleveland is DOWN by 7% when compared to 2010. The work we’re doing at Teesworks and the Teesside Freeport to secure investment and create good-quality jobs for local people is transforming our area. Not only are we creating hundreds of construction jobs, but we’re seeing hundreds more full time operational roles now being created at: 💨 SeAH Wind 🏭 Net Zero Teesside ♻️ Circular Fuels ✈️ Willis Aviation With the return of steelmaking at British Steel, new firms investing at Wilton and existing business in Redcar and Cleveland growing, we’re seeing the rewards of our efforts over the last few years. 👉 This is a real indicator that our plan for Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool is working, but there’s still much more to do. We need to keep going to secure more investment and create more good-quality jobs for local people and make sure Teesworks becomes the new ICI - providing opportunities and careers for our community for decades to come 👊
