Habari Gani? NIA! Today, we remember to make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community, in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness. “The Nia principle asks each person to be services or mission-driven on the behalf of their family, school, and community. The core concept and practice of the value purpose is service. Service to others, family school, community and the nation is what defines who we are and our possibilities for developing communities that provide the context for families and children to thrive and flourish. Each member of the family, school, or community is asked to examine his/her skills or talents and determine how he/she will put forth those skills or talents in the service of the family, school, or community.” (https://lnkd.in/en8Sdvwp)

In case you wonder... An almshouse (AKA a bede-house, poorhouse, or hospital) is charitable housing provided to people in a particular community, especially during the Middle Ages. They were often targeted at the poor of a locality, at those from certain forms of previous employment, or their widows, and at elderly people who could no longer pay rent, and are generally maintained by a charity or the trustees of a bequest (alms are, in the Christian tradition, money or services donated to support the poor and indigent). Now, I wonder how the poor would benefit from such footpath!? Is it to slow down runners, like they do in auto racing to slow down cars? Anyway, nice house for the poor back then, great architecture, definitely uplifting despite whatever financial hardship even today.
The Stydd Almshouse was built in 1728 following a request in John Shireburne's will that "a good almshouse" should be built on his estate. The building was intended to house "5 poor persons to live separately therein," as well as the teacher from the local Catholic school. The Grade II* almshouse was restored in 1990 and is now split into four flats.

Opportunity
The Diocese of Portland in Maine is seeking a new school superintendent. Great opportunity, especially for someone who hasn’t had the chance yet to serve as a Catholic superintendent. The new incoming bishop is Fr. James T. Ruggieri, presently the pastor of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish and Saint Patrick Parish in Providence, Rhode Island. I’ve heard great things about him from people whose judgment I respect. I have spent a lot of time in Maine since childhood and have spent 5 years as a Catholic superintendent. Happy to speak privately about the opportunity and the state of Maine. Great place to raise a family and much more affordable than Boston. Just send a private message on here if you want to chat.
