I thought it would be “fun” to track and share the status of my job searching, as I transition out of the military. This chart below outlines my efforts from December 2023 until today... Is this about the average for Emergency Management Job Seekers? 10 of those positions were Federal; 5 Private Industry; 5 City/County/State. #EmergencyManagement #veteran #EMJobs

🛑 Let's talk about it! 🛑 Our #veterans are facing challenges after they transition out of the #military. I believe one of the major problems is finding a #job. It really should not be that hard to find a #career since they often come with a plethora of skills, tons of on-the-job experience, and are highly qualified. On top of that, they are diligent, understand rules and expectations, and have respect for authority. I truly feel that many employers do not understand their experience, MOS, background, and how that transfers into a civilian job description. I would also venture to say that employers also do not understand the needs that some veterans may have. What do you think some of the problems are? Let's bring #awareness to this issue and make it a goal to support our military service members. #VeteranSupport #MilitaryTransition #VeteranJobs #VeteranJobs

There’s 22 a day and yet some of the most hopeful people are military members. Military members go to work right away after high school or college. There’s no looking for work. In the same, if infantry, there’s no large margin of flexibility to your life style. In most cases, when you see a military member in public, they feel a freedom in life. I meet many folks that were not in the military so bent out of shape about how they didn’t get to the C-suite, or you find them in public talking about why you aren’t following the rules. We thought a Seargeant Major could be bad—the enforcer of rules. Nothing like meeting some folks who hadn’t served. There’s a world outside your corporate job. Many in the military have seen some of the globe. Society needs more of: shoot aray of guns, blow things up, create a stack team, and get monkey butt once in awhile

Good morning everyone and Happy Thursday!!! Let me start this off with a simple question... What is a warrior? Is it someone who fought in combat? Is it someone who trained and was ready for a call that never came? Is it someone who is part of a organization that is created to protect and defend? Is it a member of a special military unit like the seals, the green berets, or delta force? Is it a member of a basketball team or NY street gang? The definition of Warrior is "a brave or experienced soldier or fighter". By this definition anyone who joins the military is definitely brave since they all understand what they signed up for, especially over the last 20 years. Now how do we fight? Is that really the question we are asking? Do you have to fire a gun in combat to be considered a warrior? What about Airman and Sailors? Are they not warriors? I know battle tested men and women who wouldn't step foot on a submarine. What about those in supporting roles? Would be much fighting if supply didn't order those bullets or if admin didn't process the paperwork to get those soldiers paid. I don't see many people fighting for free. The reason I ask this is because I saw an academy graduate who I can only guess that he was in combat decide to say a female solider, who calls herself a warrior for a number of reasons, wasn't one. How disgusting in my opinion that a former officer chose to disrespect a fellow service member that way. I wonder what kind of leadership he was taught. A person who was willing to put it on the line and who by chance and luck didn't get the call. Honestly, maybe she did, who knows? She doesn't talk about it. Anyway, let's do better. We all put on the uniform. She all were taught how to handle a weapon. We all were ready to give it all. Stop looking at yourself like you are better than your fellow service members just because you got shot at. I mean, you can always go down to the deep end of the ocean with me. Those creaks and groans from them old boats can really get on you in all that quite. Paisley on!! #weareallwarriors #paisleyon

"I wish that I would have joined the military when I was younger..." I totally understand that. I served in the Marines when I was in my 20's. The reality though is that life does not always allow us the opportunity to do some of the things that we had wished that we could do, for a variety of reasons. Now that you are perhaps older, your kids are older, and life has finally given you some time you still have that desire to serve but you think that the window of opportunity to do military service has closed. What if I told you that the window of opportunity might not have closed? Have you heard of a state defense force, or SDF? An SDF is a state military force that is exclusively under the control of the Governor of your state, through the state Adjutant General. An SDF cannot be federalized or sent overseas. Here in Ohio, we have the Ohio Military Reserve. Our mission is an emergency management mission that involves mass care, logistics, and supporting military functions. We work with our National Guard to serve Ohioans within Ohio. How much time would you have to commit? How about 1-2 days a month, and a one week annual training each year. We are volunteer, and we have to provide our uniforms and equipment, but the Ohio Military Reserve provides you with an opportunity to meet and develop relationships with new people, experience the camaraderie of military service, learn and use a variety of new skills, and serve your fellow citizens. Would you like to learn more? If you are between 17-60, and are a US Citizen and a resident of Ohio, visit ohiomilitaryreserve.com for additional information, or email recruiting@ohmr.ohio.gov or call 614-653-OHMR (6467) to speak with a recruiter and arrange a unit visit. You can also DM me, and I would be happy to chat with you and answer your questions. If you are not a resident of Ohio, visit the website for the State Guard Association of the United States, sgaus.org, to see is your state has an SDF. 💥”Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff”💥 This is something I always used to say, I’ve always been super organised and enjoyed getting into the details on things but transitioning from the military is changing me! The smallest of tasks are becoming a big deal, not in a bad way but I find myself planning meticulously things that I would usually just walk into blind. Here is an example…. Today I have a meeting with my civilian clerk to plan my last day in unit, I have planned 3 different COAs with separate timelines and already have booked in a follow up meeting. Why? Am I already becoming a civilian?🤷♂️ Do I have more time on my hands?🤷♂️ Do I care more?🤷♂️ I know it’s not because I’m anxious or worried about anything. To be honest I’m quite enjoying it all, I love planning in calls with people and hearing their stories, experiences and potential opportunities. One thing I do know is transitioning from the military is a rollercoaster ride. Be great to hear if anyone else has experienced this💪💪💪 #resettlement #serviceleaver #supplychainmanagement #operationsmanagement
