Mental Health Marketing Partner. ┃ Founder, Therapy Trust Collective. ┃ Communicator, clinician, consultant, copywriter. ┃ Clinician Advocate.
Here's a jaw-dropping stat: 64% of individuals with counseling degrees never get licensed to practice. In a world screaming for mental health support, why don't we start there? I've got a few theories as to why this happens: Entry-level, non-licensed positions are often internships or barely pay more than minimum wage ➡️ Leaving to keep a roof over your head. New grads work with vulnerable clients but lack support ➡️ Burnout. Rural areas lack clinical supervisors ➡️ Long commutes to get the supervision you need, if you can get it at all. Licensure has a time limit ➡️ Life happens, and you're out. Want to address the therapist shortage? Make the licensure process sustainable and clinician-centered. #mentalhealth #licensure #therapistshortage

Almost two-thirds of folks that have counseling degrees never get licensed. Almost 75% of therapists are white. What's the connection here? Many folks of color, LGBTQIA+ folks, working-class folks, folks with disabilities, and more decide to depart from the field after earning an expensive and time-consuming degree because they don't have: -Support -Access to supervision -Time -Money Folks of color, LGBTQIA+ folks, and other marginalized people struggle to find culturally-aware and attuned therapists. In order to invest in a therapist population that can better meet the needs of those that need care, we need to make the credentialing process easier. And of course, addressing the everyday oppression that both potential clinicians and clients face by shifting the dial on systemic barriers like racism, xenophobia, homophobia, ableism, classism, and the like would lessen the need for therapy and the burden on clinicians overall. This isn't only a supply and demand issue. It's also an equity one. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthtech #startup #equity #dei #antiracism

The cost of supervision is a big hurdle toward this accomplishment. Non-licensed clinicians don't have many options in the field after graduating, and many end up in community mental health programs with a salary that is nowhere near appropriate to what they deserve. When you put the cost of supervision into play, it can be a real balancing act with finances. Leaving most not wanting to put up with the trouble. And we also have to note, it is not a quick path to licensure. How can anyone on a limited income justify spending at least 2 years paying hundreds of dollars monthly on something they're unsure would pay off?

This is a tragedy: 1) fewer available therapists to help those in need, leading to 2) overextended practicing therapists, 3) plus all those individuals who are not fulfilling their passion to help others Everyone suffers when a system, as well intentioned as it may be, isn't working. It's so important that therapists, especially at the beginning of their career, receive the right resources and support. What do you think is needed to address this problem? #mentalhealth #therapistshortage #workplacewellness

Happy Monday to all my connections - it may be pouring with rain but we LinkedIners don't let a little thing like a bit of water dampen our spirits, not when there is so much to be done 😁 Once again, I really need your help!!! It may only be August but we are working on placing students who will be out on an unpaid work experience before Christmas and I have limited time to ensure we hit our target of providing each and every one of them with a meaningful insight into the various sectors out there - you may ask why??? Well, we are actually in the middle of the Summer break already and students will be returning to school in about 3 weeks and I have leave to take (as well as many of you) Plus, well, I am getting married end of September so would ideally like as much stuff boxed off as is possible by middle of September with being off for nearly 3 weeks - (eeeeeeeeekkkkk ) So, can you please help a 'starting to get nervous bride to be' to get her act together - it does also help you hit Social Value targets, promote your business and potentially add to your future work force 😂 There are 6th form students out for one week commencing 16th October, whose placements need to be very sector specific around sciences, opticians, pharmacists, law etc. We then have year 11 students out for one week commencing 11th December and all sectors needed. Can you help? Do you know someone who can if not you?? Please share, comment below, DM me or email me at christine.smith@elevate-ep.co.uk and lets get this show on the road. Many thanks to those of you who have already agreed to help and for those of you who have yet to help, lets have a conversation about it. Support is much appreciated. #workexperience #socialvalues #socialreturnoninvestment #liverpoolcityregion #science #law #hospitality #nursery #retail #sport #construction #engineering #healthcare
