With hearts & prayers going to the families in Baltimore, we brace for the impact of the bridge collapse and await its effect on the city, region, & industry as a whole on the eastern seaboard & throughout the country. Earlier this month, Robert Costello of the American Trucking Associations published another fantastic Industry Update & Outlook which really walks through many key components and pressures that the industry is facing. This information, combined with other sources, is extremely valuable to our team FreightPlus and for logistics & supply chain leadership in all industries in deciding how to manage freight costs. #freightmanagement, #supplychain, #managedservices #analytics

There have been ongoing conversations about the impact of the bridge collapse near the Port of Baltimore, and how it will impact the cargo normally intended to arrive at the port and having to re-route ships into other ports to unload, but the article below discusses the effect it is having on inland transportation. In the article, one of the transportation business who routinely work on moving cargo from the port to suppliers and retailers are starting to see an immediate impact in their day-to-day operations, they stated drivers could typically make 5 to 6 port moves a day, but now it has been 1 to 2 at most. The article is insightful on seeing another angle of the impact this situation is having on those others, and what the road looks like ahead. #SPRING2024SCLT4375 José Manuel Velarde CSCP, CPIM, CPSM, CPSD Margaret A. 🌉⚙️ Navigating Supply Chain Disruptions: The Fallout of the Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse ⚙️🌉 The recent collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, is poised to have a profound impact on supply chains across various industries. Let's explore some specific examples of how different sectors may be affected: 1. Automotive Industry: Leading automakers like Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and others rely on efficient transportation networks to move vehicle components and finished products. With the closure of the Port of Baltimore, delays in receiving crucial parts may lead to production slowdowns and potential supply shortages. 2. Manufacturing Sector: Manufacturers across industries depend on timely delivery of raw materials and supplies. The suspension of vessel traffic at the port could disrupt the flow of goods, resulting in production delays and increased costs for companies reliant on materials sourced through the affected port. 3. Retail and Consumer Goods: Retailers and consumer goods companies that rely on imports through the Port of Baltimore may face inventory shortages and delivery delays. From electronics to apparel, a wide range of products could be impacted, affecting both online and brick-and-mortar retailers. 4. Construction and Infrastructure: Contractors and builders reliant on timely delivery of construction materials may encounter supply chain disruptions, leading to project delays and increased costs. Infrastructure repairs and reconstruction efforts could also face logistical challenges, impacting local communities. 5. Logistics and Transportation: The closure of a major transportation artery like the Francis Scott Key Bridge will impact logistics and transportation companies operating in the region. Rerouting shipments and adjusting delivery schedules may lead to increased transit times and operational inefficiencies. In light of these challenges, businesses must proactively adjust their strategies to mitigate the impact on operations and maintain continuity. Collaboration, innovation, and agility will be key as we navigate these unprecedented disruptions together. #SupplyChain #Logistics #FrancisScottKeyBridge #SupplyChainDisruptions #BusinessImpact #IndustryExamples #LogisticsManagement

🚚 **Navigating the Bidding Season in Logistics and Trucking 🌐** Late Fall and December mark the peak of the bidding season in our dynamic industry. As we face a low market and an unpredictable upcoming year, the challenge of bidding for an entire year becomes evident. In response to the current landscape, I've observed a growing trend among clients opting for a more agile approach—quarterly bidding. In a market where adaptability is key, this shift makes perfect sense. Quarterly bidding not only allows for better alignment with market fluctuations but also empowers both clients and providers to recalibrate strategies in response to the ever-evolving logistics landscape. As we navigate these uncertain times, let's embrace flexibility and innovation in our bidding processes.
