I'd like to talk about a procedure first pioneered by George Kelling in 1901 and that has since revolutionized the field of noninvasive medicine -Laparoscopy. Laparoscopy is a procedure where cameras and tools are inserted into minimal incisions which allows providers to carry out procedures via monitors. Because of its diverse applications Laparoscopy can bring minimally invasive means to many procedures, minimizing risk and recovery times to further better patient outcomes. Some of the high risk procedures that can be ameliorated include Salpingectomies, cystectomy, orchiopexies, rectopexies, and apendectomies. Non-Invasive and Minimally invasive medicine are having their times in the sun as patient care is emphasized more and more, I wonder what new and exciting developments will take place in the field as I prepare to enter medicine!
