Our team at Alto Studios has doubled over the past few months, and it continues to grow…
This has been across every area of the business, from Member Operations and Creative (Editors, Writers, and Designers, oh my!) to Agency Ops.
Given the insane amount of candidates that apply, our hiring processes have been designed with baseline qualifiers and efficiency in mind.
However, beyond talent and qualifications, one key thing Teddy and I continue to think about is the mission critical nature of answering this question:
“𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙩 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆?”
Determining what “good fit” looks like and evaluating against it is not something an automated process or candidate checklist can capture.
This is 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥, as it touches on the intangibles. It also goes both ways – they need to be a fit for us, just as much as we need to be a fit for them.
One of the key things we look for to determine fit is a person’s “want to”.
Who 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 do this work, and what is their “why” for wanting to do it?
We’re incredibly fortunate our search efforts have helped us find A-players that believe deeply in our mission. Understanding the importance of the work we do for our Members and the impact it has is a big part of their “why”... and they all have a-lot of “want to”. =)
It’s also incumbent upon our leadership to ensure Alto Studios consciously does what it can to remain a “good fit” for those who join us on this journey, and a-lot of intention goes into that.
As our rapidly growing company matures beyond infancy, I wanted to shout-out a massive “thank you” to Andre Martin for helping us navigate this.
Super grateful he sent me an early copy of his new book, 𝘞𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘍𝘪𝘵, 𝘙𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘍𝘪𝘵, that was just released (I have 2 copies I can send out, DM if interested).
Whether you're on the hiring manager’s side of the table or the candidate’s, it’s a treasure trove of wisdom that'll help you figure out how to find the “right fit”.
I encourage you to check it out, as Andre and his book have been invaluable.
