Some dates are always special such as today, the date when we launched Silver Talkies Club six years ago in 2018, based on the inputs from attendees of our events. They wanted to meet more often, know their co-participants better and have more fun and engaging opportunities. Hence Silver Talkies Club was born in a time and age when active ageing, loneliness and isolation among older adults were not spoken about or discussed much in our country. I was in fact told by many peers that I was playing in a small niche field. Fast forward to 2024, almost every new player in the senior care space is looking at addressing similar issues with similar models. Did we start too early or did they start too late? I think it is immaterial for as they say that all's well that ends well. What is most heartening for me is to note that in the pic below all the people who became members in 2018 are still members in 2024, with the exception of one member whom we lost a few months ago. Well, here we are. It has been quite a ride, many ups and downs, but way more good times than bad. I need to thank all of my sales managers, sales directors, general managers, regional and country directors, at the last count around 8,6,9,7 and 5 respectively, for their constant help and support. The countless members of the service and production teams for putting up with me and not moaning too much whenever I dropped the ball. All of my sales colleagues past and present, way too many to mention, for their encouragement, advice, piss taking and support, this job would have been impossible without you. Being now 60 years old, I feel this job is no longer for me, however if I were just 10 years younger, Elis would be the very best company for me to work for. The 35 year old me would be buzzing, the service we offer today is far far better than it ever was and what I believe is planned for the future will keep us at least 12 months ahead of any competition, like it has always been. To the members of the service team who may not agree 100% with that last comment, remember how many customers your plant services and how many customers actually complain in any given month. It is such a small percentage, far more customers are happy with us, they just don't have the time to call you to tell you so. When I joined Sunlight there were big walls between the departments, sales never talked to service, production never talked to sales and transport never talked to anyone. Over the years we have knocked those walls down and we are so much better for it. My advice to everyone is for you all to keep talking. Especially my newer sales colleagues, your service team colleagues are a goldmine of information, so make them your best friends. A box of biscuits at Christmas or a round of ice lollies in the summer go a long way. With that I'll say goodbye. We are off travelling. See you later.

Since September 1, 2018, I have been at DirectTrust as President and CEO - and the time has flown by.  As I take stock now, we have grown four times bigger by most measures. The number of Direct Secure Messages sent and received per quarter has gone from about 50 million to over 200 million.  Our network has grown from fewer than 1 billion transactions cumulatively, and recently passed 4 billion.  Our team is 4 times bigger, as is our annual budget. I am so proud of our accomplishments.  We became an ANSI accredited standards development organization, acquired SAFE Identity, and this year, merged with the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC).  I have long made it clear to my Board that we wanted to pivot to a focus on TRUST while driving the use and usability of Direct.  Today we offer multiple services to our members and the industry including accreditation, HITRUST assessment and technical trust services for Direct Secure Messaging, Carequality, eHealth Exchange, and TEFCA.  We collaborate with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), CMS, HHS, WEDI , The Sequoia Project, CommonWell Health Alliance, Civitas Networks for Health, CARIN Alliance, and many more organizations as well as our members. Our membership today is extremely diverse beyond even the HIT companies, payers and providers in the healthcare sector to include app companies, social care organizations, and identity companies.   Our standards efforts include work to enable sensitive information exchange within the community even beyond healthcare. We are engaging with cloud fax vendors to establish standards for trustworthy exchange of data by fax. We are working with the remote online notaries to enable trusted communication of health documents.  We are building out new accreditation programs to improve trust in the consumer health application ecosystem to add to our portfolio of accreditations that assess compliance for nearly 100 healthcare companies large and small.  You should watch us, we are just getting started! It's always a party at Door No. 3! Hat tip for celebrating 30 years in business. I'm grateful to be part of writing this current chapter. From a new business perspective, it's no small feat to grow an agency. For 30 years, no less. Striking the right balance of growth is a delicate dance. Providing excellent care for your existing clients while running ahead to cultivate new clients. Building a sticky culture where top talent wants to stay while creating demand to grow the bench. Marketing for others, while also marketing for yourself. Staying heads down in the work while staying up on constantly evolving trends. You get it. Holding all of these tensions is the daily work of growth. It's the daily inputs, those little disciplines that compound over time. Keep at it today!

How often do you celebrate small wins and achievements? It's so easy to get sidetracked by ❌ not feeling good enough, ❌ not being there yet, ❌ not being as successful as someone else, ❌ "perfect" lives of other people ❌ many other things... And it's important to have something that can help you to navigate yourself out of that dark place. With my clients, we use an "achievement and small wins" list - a blank notepad that gets filled in with big and small wins, as well as praise and compliments or testimonials from your lovely clients. And here is my little win: one of the testimonials from one of my clients - who now is incredibly happy and creates a remarkable impact in the world whilst she owns her life by being an unapologetically authentic self. ✅She granted herself the authority to break free from societal expectations. ✅She liberated herself from the constraints of societal judgment. ✅She assumed a proactive and assertive stance. ✅While I am certainly feeling very happy about this wonderful testimonial, my true celebration is dedicated to this remarkable lady. I recently made a mistake when celebrating a great month in our company.  We blew away our goal and I wanted to recognize our team. Instead of just congratulating our team for their great accomplishment, I threw in the dreaded "but" at the end of it. "but, next month will most likely be much different." There was no need for me to do this.  I intended to shield them from a possible letdown the following month since we always have a strong January. The "but" was not necessary at that time (and probably not at all). Celebrate your wins.  Recognize the success of your team - the other stuff can wait. A well-informed team already knows of the challenges that may lie ahead and is prepared to handle them. Let celebrating your wins stand on its own.  Do not dilute what your team accomplished. Interestingly, February came and they beat our target for that month as well.....and did it again in March.
