Eric Klinenberg’s New Book 2020: One City, Seven People, and the Year Everything Changed, made me think deeply about where I was Four Years Ago on same date 2020? Remember that day? Where were you the day the world shut down? I'll never forget... I had meetings across the USA the week before, with Betty Hines, W.E.W. Founder and CEO (she/her) WPO Platinum III Chair at the Women Elevating Women Conference, with Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT) to finalize their involvement with EXCELerate2020, and then it was Vital Voices Global Partnership where I was next going to join the reception at the JF Kennedy Center, where I got the news.... CANCELLED! BLACK OUT! Panic set in! What was I going to do? The impact of the pandemic on both individuals and society prompts a significant moment of reflection. It begs the question: what transformations have we experienced, both personally and collectively? Echoing Klinberger's observation, it's evident that technology emerged as a victor, experiencing exponential monetization—consider the rapid rise of platforms like Zoom! However, it appears that technology still has somehow held us back from the biggest thing humans need - IN PERSON CONNECTION. The pandemic taught me the value of in person meetups, a handshake, a hug, and face to face smile. That was all stripped away from us 4 years ago, and now we have the opportunity to be together again, and many still hesitate. WHY? We craved for connection when it was taken away, and now that we have it back, it's time to regroup! We have made it to Women's Health Innovation Series' FemTech and Consumer Innovation Summit in New Jersey! Two days of emphasizing about the importance of innovation and progress in women's health and sharing the challenges founders have experienced in this field have been both inspiring and frustrating. You can ask any woman about any aspect of their health and you will hear the same story - being ignored, not being supported, being lost and not being taking seriously. Their stories led to the boom of "FEMTECH" - a whole industry dedicated to change the norm and close the gender gap. Yet, there seems to be another story that is on repeat. Women who have taken charge and developed innovative products to tackle these issues are now out there and doing what needs to be done; however, their stories still remain the same - being ignored, not being supported, being lost and not being taking seriously. What this event does prove though is that women have two superpowers - resilience and empathy. It was such a joy to meet female founders who are so passionate about their work and are choosing to keep going every single day. Throughout their stress and constant struggles they also choose to help fellow founders to make sure that women's health is constantly progressing one way or the other. Shout out to the organisers of the event Aoife McGrath (Eefa) - it was great seeing you again. Very happy to have met many amazing femtech founders, especially the girls who took me out to dinner yesterday Maria De Santis, Amy Buckalter, McCall Brinskele, Leslie Feingerts, Rachel Braun Scherl, Jane Merten, Shagun Maheshwari - the dinner conversation will be one to remember. What a fantastic start to moderating the Women in Tech Global Conference 2024 WomenTech Network 💜 Feeling energized and inspired by the phenomenal speakers. Whom I had the privilege of introducing! Janina Bauer left us with a thought-provoking question: "How do you want to save the world?" Along with her valuable advice: "Find your courage and say yes to opportunities. You will be a role model to someone else! Success Formula = Values + Strengths + Endurance + Timing" Elena Goryunova, dived into the impactful Learning Management and Development Programs at Luxoft. That drive impressive impact (BRIDGE Mentoring Program, Tech Influencer Boot Camp, High-Performance Club). Patrícia Rodrigues, "See yourself as the startup; you are the biggest project. When someone says you can't do it, do it twice and take a picture" Siri Chilazi, shared an evidence-based blueprint for the way forward so that we can focus our efforts on what works to create more equitable workplaces. 7 Ways to Level the Playing Field: 1.
