Exciting news from British Columbia! B.C. Hydro has announced a groundbreaking initiative to accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar and battery energy storage systems across the province. Starting this July, homeowners and businesses can qualify for rebates up to CAD 10,000 ($7,341) for installing a combined solar photovoltaic (PV) system and battery storage setup. This initiative not only promotes sustainable energy solutions but also empowers individuals and businesses to reduce their carbon footprint while enhancing energy independence. But that’s not all—B.C. Hydro is extending targeted rebates, potentially reaching up to $150,000, to apartment buildings, schools, community organizations, local governments, small businesses, social housing providers, and Indigenous communities. These incentives aim to support diverse sectors in embracing clean energy solutions tailored to their needs. This initiative aligns with B.C.’s new Clean Energy Strategy, unveiled recently, which underscores the province's commitment to fostering a green economy, creating jobs, and ensuring affordable electricity for all. When I started in the role of Energy Minister for PEI in 2019 there was very little residential solar installed in the province and only few companies were working in this space. The uptake of residential solar at that point was in its infancy but wasn't where we needed it to be. One of my first initiatives was to introduce a residential solar rebate that is $1 per watt, which is by far the best rebate in Canada. Between 2019 and today, the popularity of residential solar has grown exponentially on PEI and there aren't many roads on the Island where you won't find solar on a roof or in someone's backyard. There are also now several companies across PEI whose primary business is to install solar and the local expertise for solar has grown to an all-time high. In 2019 solar power barely registered as a portion of the electricity on our grid but today, solar accounts for 10% of the summertime base load in our province. We know that solar can be intermittent but building it into an energy transition creates flexible options for clean energy. Combining solar, wind and storage can do a lot to help jurisdictions deal with the need for clean energy and build energy independence. Everyone has to make changes to tackle climate change and Prince Edward Island is a case study in individuals taking up the challenge and we have the results to prove it. #solarenergy #cleanenergy #energytransition #distributedenergyresources Image source energyhub.org Inc.

Residents in Miami-Dade County can save THOUSANDS on #energybills, THANKS TO a $1,134,700 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program. This funding will provide 44 low-to-moderate income homes with free 5kW #solar systems. By joining a solar #cooperative, these households can also benefit from immediate cost savings and contribute to a collective saving of roughly $840,000 over the lifespan of their #solarpanels. This investment showcases how federal funds can support local communities, to ensure that #cleanenergy solutions reach those who need them most and build access to the clean energy economy.

A monumental achievement this week as we wrapped up a 50.73KW Commercial Grid-tied Net-metering system – the largest Solar Panel array in North Vancouver's District, BC. This impressive setup features 114x Canadian Solar 445W bi-facial panels, powered by the SolarEdge Synergy 43.2KW optimized inverter system and held firm by the Unirac Ecoffot2+ ballasted racking system. Worth noting is that this system is eligible for the new 30% Commercial Solar Investment Tax Credits (ITC's) rebate from the Government of Canada. Additionally, it qualifies for an accelerated Capital Cost Allowance tax break. #northvancouver #solarpanels #commercialsolar #britishcolumbia #vancouverbc #canadiansolar #solaredge #unirac #greenerhomesgrant #commercial #districtnorthvancouver #investmenttaxcredit #itcs #netmetering #bchydro #chargesolar #baywarecanada #vancouversolar

This is "doing it wrong". We are constantly preached at that solar is the cheapest source to have ever existed, yet uptake in Ontario collapsed when the subsidies were removed. If solar is truly inexpensive enough to warrant further investment in Ontario, the province should be building and operating it at cost through OPG, where its existence isn't as a profit centre, but as capacity that displaces gas. Incentivizing wealthy homeowners who can afford to put solar on their roof by compensating them almost 6x the market rate for the gas they are displacing is brazen wealth transfer and wholly inappropriate. It was wrong when Wynne and McGuinty did it with FIT, and it's wrong now. https://lnkd.in/gRqbzEbD

This week, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $450 million from the Puerto Rico Energy Resilience Fund for residential solar and battery installations, including $3.5 million for the new #SolarAmbassadorPrize. This prize is a competitive funding opportunity for community organizations with an existing presence in Puerto Rico to assist DOE in identifying and engaging qualifying households to sign up for residential solar and battery installations, with a focus on the island’s most vulnerable residents. “A future powered by renewables will offer the residents of Puerto Rico more energy security and more reliability—all while leaving households with cheaper bills to pay,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm. “DOE is using every tool at our disposal to expand access to clean energy, especially for the communities most at risk, giving families the peace of mind knowing that their communities are resilient in the face of the climate crisis. Applications for the prize are due September 25th, 2023: https://lnkd.in/gdJxiU-F #EnergyResilience #Solar #BatteryStorage #PuertoRico
