Should the use of 'seclusion rooms' in special schools be phased out? I appreciate there would probably need to be a transition period for schools that lack viable alternatives, allowing for the introduction of new resources and training. It feels like a very blunt tool in the present day, considering the substantial research showing the adverse impact on children. #education #specialeducation #sen #schoolleadership https://lnkd.in/eqhEzNjv

New state funding to expand the Community Eligibility Provision will allow many additional schools to serve free school meals to all students. This will have a real and lasting impact on children and families who are struggling to make ends meet. It is estimated to save families $140 per child per month on grocery costs and will bring countless benefits to children, including improved attendance and academic performance. While this is a significant investment in reducing child hunger, it does not cover all schools. We will continue to advocate for #Meals4AllNY and urge New York lawmakers to close that gap. https://lnkd.in/eKvjXpdS

HID Global, National End User Manager, K-12 Safe Schools: Director @ PASSK12.org National School Safety Committee: Most Influential People in Security 2022: Security Innovator Award 2023
We must make it our focus to understand the safety and security challenges of smaller Rural School Districts...but first we must understand THEIR CHALLENGES as a whole. These days, rural doesn’t just mean a small town. It means a district with a close-knit community, located outside of urban areas. More frustratingly for the districts in these areas, however, the rural label typically means that they receive fewer resources than larger districts, such as those in Los Angeles or San Francisco. Obviously, the first question is this: what exactly does the word rural mean? "For me, rural means isolated, quite a distance from the main city or town. If you must drive into the school at a distance, you’re not a neighborhood school, where you could walk to school," stated Heather Pilgrim, Superintendent at Oak Valley Union Elementary School District. "Small, rural schools are not the same as other schools, a lot of the information is being driven by larger, urban school districts. We’re not the same, we’re completely different." Larger districts typically receive more state funding, and thus education plans focus on those districts first. This forces smaller and more rural districts to adapt larger district curriculum plans for their own needs, rather than creating their own customized curriculums. https://lnkd.in/gJ3Jx9vc
