By now, you should know that there is a severe worker and talent shortage in the United States, including within the Animal Health industry and the Veterinary profession. You should also know that as a result of these conditions, there is plenty of opportunity for career growth and advancement, especially within the Veterinary profession. These are the exact conditions under which an experienced and reputable recruiter can help you to consider and explore the right employment opportunities for you. Once again, though, you might be asking yourself this question: “Why do I need a recruiter if the job market is so good?” I answered that question in a recent article. To recap, there are five good reasons why you need a recruiter, specifically to: 1. Be informed of opportunities of which you would not have known otherwise 2. Save time and energy on your job search 3. Gain valuable insight and information about employers 4. Gain an edge with salary negotiations during the offer stage 5. Stay abreast of what’s happening in the profession, industry, and marketplace

76% ! A study of recruitment in 2022 has shown that a huge 76% of hiring managers admitted that finding the right candidates for their business was their biggest challenge. For the majority of companies that are exploring direct recruitment, the role of searching and hiring falls to the hiring manager. Nearly always, this role filling will be in addition to normal job expectations and workloads often start to clash not long after the applications begin to come in. For many hiring managers, the strain of reviewing applications, declining those unsuitable and screening the potential ones, all in a well mannered time frame will often take its toll on their day to day workload very quickly. Many we speak to, let us know it wasn’t long before productivity in either their recruitment or day to day work pressures began to slip as the juggle of both was not possible in the same working day. Even more so once the realisation of the time required in organising multiple first, second and third stage interviews and coordinating diaries hits. How can we add value? * Over 20 years of industry knowledge * Managing and shortening your processes * Fully screen all candidates so you're left with a shortlist of only those suitable for your role and business * Headhunt suitable candidates not actively applying for positions * Providing Market insights to attract the best candidates * Plus much more ........ When it comes to Personal Statements on CVs the jury is out as to whether these are necessary, desirable or a complete waste of time. I, personally, like them. They help me get a sense of the person behind the CV. However, if you're writing a personal statement my strong recommendation is you make it meaningful and relevant to the job for which you're submitting your CV. Bland, generic full-of-cliche personal statements are meaningless and a waste of precious space on your CV. If you can't write a few (4 at the most) sentences detailing why you're the best person for the job, then don't write anything at all. Not sure what to write? Start with these: WHO YOU ARE: * Recent Massey / Wintec grad... looking for..... * Experienced Companion Animal vet with an interest in...... WHAT YOU CAN OFFER THE EMPLOYER: * list a couple of your top skills + evidence of these * make sure the skills you've listed match those they're looking for. WHAT YOUR CAREER GOALS ARE: * I'm looking to be part of....... * I'm looking to further my career so I can develop my ....... Veterinary Leadership Mentor | Operations Manager | Speaker | Course Creator | Podcast Host | Personal Trainer — I support Veterinary Managers become Veterinary Leaders 🐾🦄
It’s becoming more and more important to people, veterinarians and support staff alike, that not only do job postings include the pay rate/range (and I’m not talking about some silly 12k/yr - 120k/yr crap) but also whether or not your company requires a non-compete. Even as a veterinary leader, when I’m looking for a job and interviewing, if they tell me they DO have a non-compete for their veterinarians, I’m out. What are your non-negotiables when looking at job ads? Put them in the comments so those leaders putting together job postings can attract the right people!
