Jesus told us that when people are to think of us, his followers, there is something he wants us to be known for: radical love. Radical love is supposed to be our brand identifier. Unfortunately, love isn’t what Christians are known for today. A course correction is needed. We’re excited to share key learnings from attending BrandStorytelling’s event at #Sundance last month! We always leave these gatherings brimming with inspiration, and love sharing the wealth here, which we’ll be doing over the next few days. With the event focused on brand-funded content, we thought that a great place to start would be some pointers on how to think about selling in a brand-funded project to your leadership team: 1. Sell an ecosystem: Don’t sell the project as one film, explain how the content will become an ecosystem that serves several purposes from more traditional advertising all the way to brand entertainment. 2. Listen to leadership and frame your project in terms of THEIR needs: If you’re working with a leadership team who may be unfamiliar with brand-funded content - be persistent and don’t give up hope. Listen to what is top of mind for your leadership team, and show how storytelling is a solution for a business priority that is important to them.  3. Think differently about the model: Typically the brand leads the charge on their content, but what if your brand connected with something that’s already been made, and sponsored it? This was the case with the film “Queen of New York,” which needed additional funding and found it through the hair styling brand got2b (owned by Henkel). Check out the trailer for the movie below! Strong brands tell what they do and do what they tell. That is more than an understatement. But Wouter what has Blondie to do with your Manifesto? Everything is done before in One Way Or Another. The song "The Tide Is High" is covered by lots of bands but it was originally written by John Holt, produced by Duke Reid and performed by the Jamaican group The Paragons in 1967. Covered also by ‎- ‎Blondie  - ‎Papa Dee  - Atomic Kitten When Debbie Harry wrote her manifesto it became her Brand. Her Brand is named after she blonded her hair and was called Blondie when walking on the streets. She listened to her future audience. The Tide Is High became number one and no band could ever beat this Blonde Bomb. Now we are talking Manifesto Wouter! Listen to the lyrics and the voice of my muse Debbie Harry and understand why I took her as an example for a strong Brand that keeps her Position even when she is still 77 years young, alive and kicking on and off stage for already 3 generations. The song gained international attention in 1980 when a cover version by the American band Blondie became a US and UK number-one hit. The song topped the UK ... This woman reminds me of another Blonde Bomb who knows all about Branding She is called the Queen of Personal Branding. I reposted recently an Unlock Story about her and made several announcements for her Events. I blame her for finding my Ikigai or Sweetspot as she calls her. What is the #travelretail story? What are we REALLY selling? We are not selling gifts, self treats or restocking. We are not selling products. We are selling more than that. That is what we need to tap into. Last night I stumbled upon this video. Powerful stuff. Jeremy Renner had a bit of a run in with a snow plow leaving him with 38 broken bones, a sliced liver, an eye popped out and a popped lung. Yet, despite all odds…. He is running. For him, Brooks trainers were a symbol of hope. Hope led to a new perspective… a realisation that a change in perspective is the real superpower. Adversity is fuel. A product is a vehicle that carries intent. A bottle of whisky might be a gift but its intent can be so much more. It could be a celebration, gratitude, reconciliation or just an opportunity to share stories over a dram. A bottle of perfume can be a lift in mood, a statement, an act to attract or wanting to be part of the brand lifestyle. If retailers want to be a brand in our channel, one of luxury, it needs to tell a story…. Otherwise it is a 7-Eleven, a blurred store on the travellers journey. As for Brooks, I will certainly consider them for my next pair. A trainer is a trainer at the end of the day but, I like the values it has shared in this story. #dutyfree could do worse than borrowing their slogan… let’s run there. What are meetings like at your work? As we gather in our quarterly sales and marketing meeting, we lead with an authentic appreciation for each other. As a brand, we're growing at a record rate. A key concern, how do we ensure that authenticity isn't lost in other areas of our business? It's about sharing our story, celebrating local connections, and leaving no drinker behind in the process. It's about keeping one eye firmly on the past, as well as the future. It's about reminding ourselves we're the current custodians of Beartown and whenever the day comes, it's our responsibility to leave it in a better position than when we found it.
