As Zambia grapples with a devastating drought, it faces the prospect of a "Hunger Season." The shortage of maize flour, a staple food, has been exacerbated by last year's significant export of maize to the DRC Congo. This rain season represented the final opportunity for Zambian farmers to avert a severe hunger crisis, yet the current drought conditions cast doubt on their ability to do so. In addressing this pressing issue, one potential solution lies in the establishment and enhancement of food banking initiatives. Our recent exploration in Kafue with the Global FoodBanking Network revealed a startling abundance of surplus food that often goes to waste at a named chain store, highlighting the potential for food banking to mitigate the impact of food scarcity. While it may not serve as a comprehensive solution to hunger, expanding our food banking capabilities can help buffer against the shocks of food insecurity.

This is one of the most "OK, Boomer" posts I've seen in some time and it's being shared by a number of people I actually like and respect which makes it all the more disappointing. There's a wave of Gen Xers and elder millennials growing old in front of our eyes that are slowly being conditioned with this notion or ideal that life was "better" before the internet and the technology boom of the 90's and early aughts. The idea of freedom tied to archaic technologies and basic ignorance of how everything actually works is seemingly forcing a large amount of people to clutch their pearls at the sight or sound of anything being used to progress how we live. Whether it be computers, the internet, social media, ads, or (feigned gasp) A.I., the ill capacity to keep up is creating this demonization of everything "new and improved" putting them in a box to wish things were the way they were before. You know, when they were children... I will never say that modern OR older sensibilities are right or wrong, it's definitely a preference to long for the things that once brought you comfort and security that one doesn't feel they have any longer; but to say you were more free is to not take responsibility for your own usage of modern tools - whether too much or too little - and putting blame on anyone else and claim that someone else's hand is to your throat "making" you do something against your will. (I HAD to buy the new iPhone) The world is big and it gets faster and more burdensome the more you leave decisions to other people. If you feel the life perceived in this photo is better, nothing is stopping you. Go get a land line or flip phone and live your best life. You'll definitely be more free. Free from information. Free from opportunity. More power to you.

Like countless others, I found myself engrossed on her Instagram stories, eagerly following her culinary odyssey on Olorisupergirl's Instagram, and scouring the internet for every tidbit of her. Here are five lessons I learned from Hilda Baci’s extraordinary accomplishment: 1) Keep Going: Hilda Baci's achievement shows the importance of persistence and endurance. Cooking continuously for four days required a lot of strength and commitment. In our own lives, it's important to face challenges, stay strong, and overcome obstacles to succeed. Omo X 100, I was really motivated 😆 2) Follow Your Passion: Hilda Baci’s record-breaking cooking marathon proves the power of pursuing our passions. She dedicated herself to culinary arts and strived for excellence. This achievement reminds me to pursue my passions wholeheartedly, invest time in mastering my craft, and strive for excellence in everything I do. 3) Do your thing and the WORLD will ADJUST: As I contemplated my own pending tasks today, plagued by procrastination, the resounding question "What would Hilda do (WWHD)?" echoed ceaselessly in my mind. The audacity to dream big and step out of her comfort zone. Because when we take risks and dream big, we discover our true potential and experience personal growth. 4) Teamwork makes the Dream work: Although Hilda Baci was the face of this achievement, she had a supportive team behind the scenes. I recently gave myself a grade and discovered how bad I am at remembering and keeping in touch with friends, but thanks to this, I am reminded every day to build genuine friendships.
