Today is PRIDE Day, and we stand with our LGBTQ+ customers, colleagues and community. One year ago, we joined dozens of other companies in solidarity by signing the Human Rights Campaign’s “Count Us In” pledge. Today, we continue to confirm our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Learn more here about the HRC pledge: https://lnkd.in/gaFFGsrw #PrideDay #Pride #PrideMonth

A time to celebrate with, advocate for, listen to and show absolute support of our wonderfully diverse LGBTI+ communities and reflect on how we can all be the change we want to see in the world. We've taken some decent strides towards equality in recent years. That being said, we still live in a world where Faith-based schools can LEGALLY expel and sack LGBTQ students and teachers respectively; where elite sportspeople in major codes don't feel safe being 'out'; and where sickening violence and displays of hatred can still bubble to the surface as they did just a few short months ago in Melbourne and Sydney... there is still a very long way for us to go. It is great to see all the progressive organisations here on LinkedIn making pride pledges, implementing inclusion programs, rainbowing their logos, encouraging the use of gender neutral language and respecting each other's pronouns. Descrimination in (almost...) all its forms is illegal...hopefully the Attorney General's review of Faith-based schools will bear fruit... but laws are the effect, not the cause of social change. The cause can start with a simple little thing like rainbowing your logo, engaging in a conversation and making your employees and colleagues feel comfortable to bring their whole selves to work. #diversityequityandinclusion #prideatwork #prideisnotjustforamonth

Are brands pulling back on support for Pride this year? It has been a few weeks since I chatted about this with Allison Carter at Ragan Communications and PR Daily and I still believe that they are not. Rather, I think we are seeing fewer brands veering into the rainbow-washing space given the heightened risk of criticism from LGBTQ+ advocates (and vocal anti-LGBT activists) on inauthentic or superficial and performative allyship. However, those brands that understand that action earns trust are continuing to support Pride by uplifting their work to embrace inclusive policies, creating impact-focused purpose-driven campaigns, and promoting a culture of belonging by celebrating and uplifting their employees, consumers, and partners. These brands are not backing away from those values and there is plenty of data to show that this will continue to drive growth, as noted by this year's #ReturnOnLeadership (ROL) Index, comprised of companies with strategic clarity, alignment, focus, and a sense of meaning, showing that the ROL Index (+49%) has outpaced both the S&P 500 (+26%) and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (+11%) over the past three years.
Corporate Pride celebrations have faced backlash in recent years, grappling with challenges such as rainbow-washing and controversies surrounding corporate partnerships. Gerry Rodriguez, SVP, Brand Purpose and leader of our LGBTQ+ taskforce 'OutFront,' recently discussed these issues with PR Daily. He highlighted the necessity of genuine engagement and visibility, signaling a broader shift in corporate values towards inclusivity and true support for the LGBTQ+ community: https://edl.mn/4cfbh8a #EverydayPride

As advocates for corporate social responsibility with a diverse team, we strive for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion because they're essential values. However, effectively communicating these values can be challenging for companies particularly during LGBTQ+ Pride Month when companies unveil rainbow-themed products and rebranding efforts. The phenomenon of "rainbow washing" has led to skepticism towards brands that seem to capitalize on the LGBTQ+ community, often resulting in fumbled Pride messaging or misaligned values. To ensure authenticity and alignment, our team uses 4 strategies to avoid rainbow washing, not only during Pride Month but every month: https://loom.ly/RaZ7KC4
