🎒🌍 What I find fascinating about traveling Hoş geldiniz Türkiye’ye! Currently, I'm enjoying a wonderful time with my family in Turkey. From the moment we arrived at the airport, I noticed the many small and big differences: the way people gesture, the volume of their speech, how they interact with children. Cultural differences are around every corner, and that's what makes traveling so fascinating to me. As an intercultural trainer, I'm particularly aware of how differently people behave. But why is that? Why do people act differently in various cultural contexts? One reason is that each culture develops strategies over time that prove to be successful. These strategies shape norms and behaviors, from which cultural traits emerge. In this sense, culture is an adaptation to specific living conditions. It's important to understand that these differences are neither better nor worse – they are just different and help people to succeed in their environment. 🌟 So why do I love traveling? Well, traveling broadens my horizons, sharpens my perception of others, and enriches my life. I’ve never wanted my travel to be a “how-to” unless it was how to immerse yourself in people and culture! I got a message from one of my former students that I taught 8 years ago in Egypt. 🗺️ The impact that my students had on me, is so much greater than they’ll know. Through them, I learned the culture, the language, and the socio-economic climate of a place that I was a guest in. 🗺️ As a result of my life as an expat, I have always made it my duty to show a deeper depiction of what travel looks like because although these are places we vacation or grab our content, these are other people’s homes! 🗺️ I share this because if you’re in the travel “niche” I implore you to ask yourself: 1. What conversations am I having with local communities and am I learning and teaching others? 2. How does my presence impact the world around me? (Positively or negatively) 3. Am I willing to speak up for global communities when I have had the privilege of being welcomed into international borders? 4. I see the numbers of immigration and emigration rising with people arriving, departing and returning. Although not all driven for the best reasons I share my reflections on the power of travelling. Throughout my journey, spanning both work and living experiences in Algeria and Sweden, I have come to realize the invaluable benefits of immersing myself in different cultures.
