What are the necessary features of a search engine for a document corpus of less than 100k items? Here’s my list: 1/ easy way to expand the scope 2/ easy way to iteratively & interactively filter the results 3/ powerful syntax:expression language 4/ speed 5/ security conscious results on a per user basis 6/ real time, live results (no stale index storage) 7/ hits ordered by comprehensible priorities 8/ hits linked to specific target locations on the documents

#MachineLearning can "eliminate inter-observer variations"! Well, emphatically yes, *but*, do people realize what "inter-observer variations" are? You can also call it "ground truth noise". We can't do much about these variations until we duly acknowledge that human parity isn't the target anymore, and gold standard ground truth aren't golden. Benchmarking against such ground truth leads to incorrect model selection and guides research to an incorrect direction.
