My How;
Earlier in the heart of the pandemic, I was privileged to attend the Unilever "Purpose and Personal Branding Masterclass".
A little back story; Graduating from campus is a big achievement that cannot be downplayed. I graduated from University in 2021. I vividly remember that day; it was cloudy with a chance of light drizzle. My excitement was unmatched, my anxiety unparalleled, and my optimism sky high. So many emotions interwoven into a tapestry of a young African girl dressed in an oversized gown.
The ceremony was brief. Degrees were conferred, accolades given, few speeches made and the ceremony came to a close. I recall walking out of the university gate thinking; Is this it? Am I done with 8-4-4 just like that? My introspection was all about how to navigate this new phase of my life. Myriads of questions lingered in my mind; "How do I approach the job market and still maintain my authenticity?" , "How do I stand out?" , "How do I brand myself for what I want?"
When the opportunity for this masterclass presented itself, I did not hesitate. Sitting under the wisdom of Pawan Kumar Marella and Bryan C. was refreshing to say the least!
Let me share some gems that were my take-home, that have helped me navigate through post-graduate newness;
" Do not loose your childlike Spirit."
" Do it, then say it; action comes first."
"Be authentic always, people nowadays work fast in creating a mental framework about you."
"Your brain does not recognise the difference between excitement and anxiety, use this to your advantage."
"Learn to pitch Yourself; in 3 minutes , 1 minute and 30 seconds"
"Trust is comprised of good character and competence, guard this with your all!"
"Stop asking for the easy way, work your way up through it!"
"Network with people, solutions are found there."
"You won't wake up and declare that this is the day you destroyed your life.It is a sum of tiny decisions made over time."
"Love feedback; it will always help with positioning yourself in all areas of your life.
"Leverage on your strengths and grow your soft skills."
Finally, patience is key, trust the process.
